Is the UK DVD uncut?

see topic title.
I wanna know since the Japanese DVD doesn't contain any subtitles:(

reply

It should be uncut, but I haven't watched it. The picture quality is poor (hazy and soft considering this is a new film) compared to the japanese release. My japanese disc looks better even after adding subs, compressing the file and burning a new dvd. If you know how to do it, then I recommend you to get the japanese release and adding subs yourself. I can give you english subs that should be as good as the subs on the UK disc.

reply

Thx for the offer, but I don't have a DVD burner(hope that's the correct english term^^).
Since the UK DVD comes a lot cheaper I'll settle for it.

None of the reviews I've read for the Optimum release have mentioned a bad picture quality. Below are two reviews ---->

Optimum’s 1.85.1 anamorphic widescreen transfer for this film looks great.

Trust me, it's bad. Even on a small CRT TV, it's noticeable. Watching on my PC screen gave me a headache it was so soft. The Optimum release of the first Azumi was comparable to the Japanese release, but this one is only worth getting for the subtitled documentary.

I agree, the picture quality is terribly soft on the Optimum Asia DVD. It annoyed me very much while I was watching the movie.

I agree - the UK R2 release is terrible!

Got the Azumi 1+2 box today and while the Azumi 1 DVD looked great, Azumi 2 is very bad... blurry and hazy picture quality :(

Strange for such a new movie.

i just recently bought the Azumi box set and i have watched them both and they're simply amazing however one thing i can complain about its just minor that is, some of the blood shed scenes are CG animated but still its all well and good. although i have never seen the KB double bill never really fancied it but i should imagine Azumi would own it.

Yeah I thought the quality was pretty rubbish as well, at first i thought it was just my eyes going weird! LOL I rented mine online.

Not that it mattered much, the film was pretty dire. That scene with the guy throwing that knife staff thingy was just awful, the effects looked cheap and rushed! I think it was a Ninja Scroll manga ripoff anyway, there's a similar kind of scene in that film and its better.

Also noticed that the Japanese language Behind The Scenes Featurette had no English subtitles, which is kind of useless for a UK DVD release I would have thought, as the film had subtitles! This DVD feels like it was rushed into production without any care, unlike the Appleseed DVD they released which was exceptional quality in every way.
