sharewhat are you talking about? This show is not a rip off. A rip off is something stolen or plagiarized. The producers actually bought the rights of the french show and made a Quebec version.
And the first poster is obviously talking about the Québec-adaptated version since he mentions learning a lot about Québec watching it.
And i suggest you watch a clip from both versions, you will see that both shows aren't that different one from the other when it comes to the sets and the structure:
