Ok nightsparkle, step back a a minute. You're attacking this documentary because you claim it has no substance, when your post has no substance either... why don't you expand on point, and give US some insight on your views on why you thought this movie was bad.

I wondered at the low rating as well. America has reached a crossroads in her history. Those with political astuteness will recognize that there are definite changes happening and men must be judged by secular standards now more than ever, because the problem has become a secular one (although I privately think that the 21st century will be earmarked as the century of greed as the 20th century was certainly found to be the one of MURDER. 1 in 22 people in the last century lost their lives violently.).

Looking at this film in a general way, it does try to show historically how the right tried to organize itself so that it had/has political influence. I think it cannot help but point out the lack of sophistication of the leaders.

This documentary cannot help what it found. It is a mistake to look at a film and become angry with it just because it finds something that is disagreeable to someone's sensibilities.

In fact, if the religious right is offended, then become astute enough to follow leaders who not only understand what God said in the Old and New Testament, but who understand the political problems brought about by people and organizations in conflict with each other because they do not operate on the same moral premise. Follow leaders, in other words, who not only know about God, but who seem to have a tolerant understanding of man.

One more thing (I should probably have just edited my comment above. Ah well too late).

Has anyone else noticed why the usefulness of the six reviews above are so evenly divided?

4/7, 5/9, etc. All six reviews seem to be this way. I wonder why? What are people seeing. I almost wish I could ask.

probably the admixture of religious view and world-view, to answer the question

i think the documentary was a well-conceived exposition of the historical & cultural context for the emergence and convergence of the religious-right with the republican party.

western culture, as a whole, has moved in a direction the religious-right is not comfortable with - the republican party capitalized on this opportunity, which was probably an inevitable thing. thats a lot of votes.

that the documentary didnt rail against the people, but rather allowed the most influencial and reasonable amongst them to expound (robeson, robertson, falwell, weyrich, reed) put the thing across rather well.

for those like me who do NOT share that world view, the simple glimpse inside the dazzling mosque at the end gives the lie to the nostrums of the christian right.

giving people their due is good form. this doc was good form, good history.
