A Thought About Friendship

When Gerry died, Denise helped out Holly every way she could. Then when something great happened in her life, first Holly didn't even try to hide her negative reaction out of courtesy and then disappeared from the face of the Earth to draw shoes when Denise would have needed her.

Then she has the nerve to appear with the drawings of the shoes and she's not even that sorry. If I had been Denise, I would've said "Look. I'm very happy that you found your calling in life, but I seriously question whether we are really friends. Because friends don't act like that."

Friends don't abandon each other in the time of need. Holly could have said "Hey, Denise. My husband's death hit me really hard. I'm very happy for your engagement, but I don't think I'm fit to perform any Maid of Honor duties at the moment. I hope you can forgive me." Denise would have understood. She might even had moved the wedding date for her friend to be able to be her Maid of Honor.

Rant over.

I respectfully disagree. Some people do not have the capacity to see past their own grief or other issues sometimes. Especially if someone died it would be very hard for the person. I actually was watching the movie again last nite and when I got to the scene in the boat I really felt bad for Holly because both of her friends seemed to have good things up and coming in their lives and she lost the love of hers. I do see what you are saying but I also see why Holly was that way.

True friends don't let emotions get in the way of a friendship. Period.
