Loch Ness Monster??

Oh my god, that was to much....

This movie was pretty descent, an average family movie... But the whole Nessie thing was way out of context. It's supposed to be a family movie, not a fantasy movie...

Lol, amazing how you guys can turn a Lassie/Nessie discussion thread into a South Park thread... :D

reply

That must be the ultimate, most random pointless South Park gag ever. Had me in stitches the 1st time I saw it. lol.

In the "John Edwards" episode Chef and the children visit his parents, who now live in Scotland! Funny how they complain about the Loch Ness monster then move to Scotland later on lol.

On the subject of Lassie, why did they add that to the film? It wasn't in the original film from the 40's.

reply

" Why did they add that to the film? It wasn't in the original film from the 40's" Well actually before the film there was the BOOK, and Nessie is referenced in that book, so Sturridge decided to add it to his film. And a fine moment it is too!

reply

Lol, I can just see the director thinking about it...

"hmmm...well this is looking pretty good...Omg!! remember that part in the book with the Loch Ness Monster? Let's add her in there!! XD omg that's gonna be so awesome!!!"

I know who the real Adolf is...

i think its a really good little addition to the movie, people probably would've really believed in the Loch Ness Monster in the 40's (i think thats when its set)

Yes, I agree. It's not a fantasy movie even if it is set in a very clean and idealised 1930s.

It provided a moment of humour to break the bleakness, it demonstrated Lassie's determination to return home (she was willing to cross wild murky water and drown to return home, she was willing to run hundreds of miles through the Loch Ness wilderness to return home), and it was supposed to remind people that Lassie's journey was as "mythical" as the existence of a Loch Ness sea leviathan, Lassie's journey home inspired as much imagination and curiosity and awe as the idea of a sea leviathan inspired people for thousands of years (Loch Ness: one mythical sea creature in a long line of famous mythical sea creatures).

Lassie's journey = mythical, inspiring, magical; Loch Ness creature = mythical, inspiring, magical.

Every film needs a surprise plesiosaur cameo.
