The Book of Mormon is fiction

The Bible vs. The Book of Mormon:

VIDEO: http://www.livinghopeutah.org/video/vid_bible_med.htm

"The Book of Mormon claims to be "a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible." Both the Bible and the Book of Mormon declare themselves to be ancient, historical, and reliable rules of faith-the very word of God.

These claims have historically been taken on faith. But is there any evidence to support them one way or the other? Is it even possible to "test" a rule of faith? More to the point, is there any basis for placing one's faith in the Bible or the Book of Mormon?

It's an important question. It's an eternal question. This presentation puts the Bible and the Book of Mormon to the same tests. History, archaeology, textual criticism, and other disciplines combine to shed light on what is true...and what is false.

Truth never fears investigation. Faith need not--and should not--be blind. Discover for yourself which of these books is worthy of being called "scripture" and which is worthy of your trust."

The above argument is based upon the idea that one can empirically, using intellect alone, prove or disprove the truth of scripture, and for that matter, the very existence of God.

Neither God, nor His Holy Writ, can be 'proven' to exist using such methods. All people base their beliefs solely upon their desires, irrespective of fact. Smokers, for example, know very well that smoking is harmful, yet they continue to smoke, according to their desires.

Put differently, "A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still."

Pharisees, chief priests, and scribes all saw miracles performed before their eyes, yet they steadfastly refused to accept Jesus as the Christ. They believed according to their desires, not blunt fact before their eyes.

A true testimony can only be founded using all the faculties God has given us, and those include our emotions, our spirits, and our intellect.

That's why the truth of God's existence, Joseph Smith's vision, or the Book of Mormon can only be found by engaging God in prayer. We must ask Him, and there must be a testimony given by the Holy Spirit. We must have the DESIRE to know and the courage to act upon it. That is why Moroni 10:3 contains the phrase, "with real intent." We must make a personal, emotional, and spiritual investment, otherwise we will never come to true knowledge of eternal things.

So your saying that because of prayer one must check his intelligence at the door? Are you afraid to watch this video? This video shows factual errors in the BOM, proving that it is not historical. This is proof that Smith made things up. If you truly believe that the BOM is true then you should have no problem watching the video and then refuting it here.

Let's see what you're made of. Of course you won't listen to me, because I'm a Christian, NOT a Mormon. Smith taught that the BOM is "the most correct book ever written". Too bad this was challenged in the video, which was produced by ex-Mormons for MORMONS, by the way.

Prove it. And then find something more productive to do with your life than trying to drag down Mormons.

Don't make demands of me, you arrogant troll. I was speaking to the other guy. You can go stick your head in the toilet and flush. You need a good flushing if you think I can personally "drag down Mormons".

Remnant of The Abyss, don't you think it's ironic that you claim to be a Christian yet you do not act Christ like in any way? Christians (and mormons btw) believe in following Christ, acting as he would. So Remnant, someone who claims to be a Christian, do you think Christ would say something like what you just did quote,

"Don't make demands of me, you arrogant troll. I was speaking to the other guy. You can go stick your head in the toilet and flush. You need a good flushing if you think I can personally "drag down Mormons".

If so then that is a completely different Jesus then the one from the bible. Try to be more Christlike.

reply

Ah, no big deal. Remnant is only proving my point about belief following desires, irrespective of fact. And I noticed that he studiously ignored my statement (5th paragraph) about intellect being one of the tools God has given us to acquire truth. Which tells us that he either deliberately ignored it, or he was in too much of a lather to make a response to comprehend what I wrote. Either way, his desires are painfully obvious.

Of course it is fiction. It is pretty obvious that it is made up history. It is also a racist book in the sense that the "wicked" get cursed with darker skin.

I used to wonder why anyone would believe in such crazyness, but you have to understand people believe in crazy things everywhere. Also there are not many mormons around. There are about 5 million in a world of 7 billion. Yes the church claims there are 14 million, but they include people who have left the church, so that number is another lie.

Arrogant troll? That's funny! Who started this post?

reply

You need to get a life. You're accusing someone of trolling.

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

Right now Remnant, you are posting inflammatory messages trying to provoke mormons into an emotional response. You are being a hypocrite by calling someone else a troll. What did Christ say about hypocrites?

Matthew 15:7-9 You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

Now you are going against Christ. Christ taught against hypocrisy. Stop your hate.
