hey, do y'all think Pearl in the movie is a reference to The Scarlet Letter, by being an unwanted child, from unwanted circumstances?

Pearl was the name of the director, Bobby Roth's mother. But good call on the Scarlet Letter reading nevertheless. Who knows what influences writers' creative decisions?
