Is this about skateboarding?

I was wondering if this was a documentary about skateboarding????/

reply

I think a portion of it involves skateboarding. Its a documentary about rising artists in the early to mid nineties who were urban outcasts and found unique outlets for their creativity in different mediums. A lot of them were also in the skateboarding and graffiti scene. I know Spike Jonze was mentioned as one of the more high profile subjects of the doc. And, as I remember, he was into the skateboard scene, and even did a few skateboarding videos.

So I'm betting some skateboarding will be involved, but its not technically about skateboarding.

I think this movie will be more about the 90's scene... and if you were a teen then, like me, you know how influental and amazing that time was. Sure, there is skating involved- it was just part of everything, then. Personally, I am thrilled that there is finally a movie about the 90's scene, period. Agnes B designed what was hip to wear, then. Think "Sassy" magazine. Ian MacKaye was behind the music we listened to. Tommy Guerro made the kids in the 80's turn into skaters in the 90's. Spike Jonzes made the skating videos, Ed Templeton skated and made awsome art. Everybody was connected in some creative way.

Dood, it was such a great time. Can't wait for this movie!!

No, it has nothing about skateboarding proper and is only used in the context of where some of the artists came from. Most of the film itself is the rise of these guys to the near present - Shepard Fairey is in the interviews and this was right before his Obama posters hit it big - so definitely near past. The excellent use of songs was impressive and would recommend the soundtrack. It's not everyday that a documentary can impress on soundtrack alone.

The dvd film of the film is marketed as better than Dogtown and the Z Boys , a new amazing skateboard film ??? Its definitely not. Its good but of limited interest.
