Aruba...... ??????????

This will sound stupid... but tell me... that court is just a novella court, right???

It could not possibly be that dysfunctional in a real Aruban court... could it???

( That was toooo hysterical !!! )

Have you been following the Natalie Holloway case. The Aruban court systems are pretty dysfunctional. In fact Esteban got a pretty speedy trial compared to Joran Van der sloot who has been in jail since May and still hasn't been charged. Another thing Aruban law does not allow for a jury trial like Esteban got....hehehe, it was rather funny.

Both the UK and US are based on the same principle that a person charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. The burden of proof is upon the prosecution. But we all know that it's not that way in actuality. A person charged with a crime here in the US is generally tried in the media, which is the first onslaught of injustice and attack upon their presumed innocence.

Yes,indeed I am following the Natalie Holloway case. This is what prompted my tongue in cheek question :-) While I know that novella and other movie courts are not properly portrayed, I had to think of the unusual Holloway case and think to myself that the Aruban system, both in novella and real life leaves much to be desired.

Thank you all for your interesting replies.

Two things: one, there is no jury system in Aruba, and two, there is NO
DEATH PENALTY! My big problem with this novela from the beginning is that
it has put Aruba in such a bad light that I have to think one of
the writers had a bad experience in Aruba. Early on Luciano tells Maria
that he had to return to Aruba because "there are many innocent people
behind bars in Aruba." That is simply NOT TRUE! If anything the
Dutch justice system is way too lenient.

These people are potraying Aruba as a corrupt gestapo state.
We hear complaints all the time about how Mexico is potrayed in
American movies and T.V. as a corrupt, backward Third World country,
yet now Mexico is doing the same thing to Aruba!
Go figure!

Now, Now, novela's are fair. . . they make the Mexican legal system look just as rediculous.

Thank you for your information. Some of us are not familiar with the Aruban justice system, so we could not possibly know if it is being portrayed correctly. I assumed because this is a novella that alot of liberties have been taken with the truth.

Yes.... I saw that ... him and the 2 brothers. I think they all know plenty. They had 2 long weeks to cover their trails. It's criminal that it was mishandled!
