Another Olbermann howler of a mistake ...

You know if you're going to attack someone for being ignorant, perhaps it might be a good idea to avoid such a condition yourself.

Olbie here obviously has not learned that lesson. Just tonight (October 21, 2009), he exhibited his ignorance and arrogance at the same time.

In essence, he attacked Glenn Beck for defending a "clause" in the Constitution, "later overturned" that would prohibit the abolition of slavery for twenty years after ratification of the Constitution itself. His pedantry and snide childishness is somewhat brought to plain old foolishness (and easily opened up to ridicule) by the fact that he was wrong.

Spectacularly wrong.

The Constitution doesn't have such a clause in it. There's a clause in Article I that prohibits the slave trade for twenty years, more specifically through 1808. And another later on that prevents that from being changed by subsequent amendment.

And even then, there were only two amendments to the Constitution that occurred prior to 1808, and neither even remotely touched on the subject. Basically, the Constitution never included what he said it did, and it was never specifically amended. Only the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the Constitution, but it had absolutely nothing to do with the twenty year allowance for the slave trade.

Maybe Olbermann should do his school yard kindergarten voice on himself?
