Why the black background?

Olbermann used to appear in front a of a screen with a background on it, (I don't recall the details), and the camera was some feet in front of him when he threw the papers at it after the "worst persons" segment. For a while now he's been in front of a back screen and the camera is right in front of him. It's a small thing but does anybody know the reaosn for the change?
