I'd rather watch the original.

It's many years since I saw the original it but I remember really enjoying it. It's a pity really because this has a good cast full of people I'd normally watch a film for but in this version the only character who doesn't disappoint is Jada Pinkett Smith - and Bette Midler, what there is of her. Ah well, maybe the first one will turn up on TV soon.

Good for you.

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

The original was a bazillion times better. It's shown on Turner Classic Movies at least twice a year.

shown on tcm twice a year? i'd say twice a week... the tcm version i get (tcm nordic) have been rolling the same movies over and over again since i was a kid and it was called tnt. there is some reference to the original like the line "what do you think this is some kind of 1930's movie", the end credits mention the original also. meg ryan reminded alot of sarah jessica parker in this movie and i had them confused many times thought it was her. when i first saw this i didn't realise it had an older version, thought this was made a bit cause how people say how much more men than women are featured at places.

i'm like a buckingham palace guard,
not allowed to move or show any reaction at all,
doesn't matter what female tricks you put on,
ive learned how to resist your charm,
twinklin your eye,
challenging you for a try,
perspiring is because of the suit so hot,
worked your magic trying to make the armour drop,
broke the rules to tell you i got your charm tamed,
before i melted on the pavement.
