The scene where Logan drops the shoppping bag .....

... just confirms my belief from life experience (mine and others) that the most damaging person in many a teenage boy's life is his mother. This is compounded in modern society (in Australia and the US at least) by the preponderance of women teachers in the schools these days who it would seem would prefer boys' behaviour to be stifled to resemble more that of girls'..

Boys just aren't allowed to be boys anymore: to use up that boyish energy.

I think you have to understand that parents aren't robot. Logan's Mother is struggling to hold everything together - paying the bill, raising a weird kid alone, pressures of her job, pressure of her own personal life - it is say for kids not to understand those pressures. When Logan drops the bag, for his mother, those pressure all come to a head. She is pushed beyond her limits, not simply by Logan dropping a bag of groceries, that was simply the straw that broke the camel's back.

But I think her anger is short lived. I think she eventually pulls it back to normal, and is on good terms with Logan again. Though it would have been helpful for her, or any parent, to explain that to their kid.

As to - *Boys not allowed to be Boys* - that's true, but I think it is more - *kids aren't allowed to be kids.* When I was young I lived in a town of about 1500 people, my brother and I had free run of the town when we were in grade school, just as long as we were back home in time for meals. Typically small towns like this would have a Noon and 6 o'clock siren, that would alert kids to what time it was. They could then run home and eat.

Today, kids practically need an armed guard on them and all play has to be structured. My brother and I would walk from one end of town to the other to go to the swimming pool without a problem. Today, parents get arrested if they allow their children to walk 2 blocks to the local park.
