New Years Revolution 2005 Review

This if the WWE's first ever New Years Revolution, and the first ever ppv they did from Puerto Rico. It's another greedy attempt at adding more ppv's to an already oversaturated market. As a production of Raw, it features only the Raw roster and JR and King are on commentary.

Match #1

Raw Tag Team Championship Match

William Regal And Eugene Vs Christian And Tyson Tomko

Eugene is dressed up like Hogan tonight. He does the posedown routine to piss off Christian. Eugene gives him a wedgie of doom and then takes him down for some JYD headbutts and feigns taking a whiz on him. Funny stuff. Tomko in and he drops Eugene. Christian back in and Eugene slides outside to play to the fans. He hides under the ring, outsmarts the heels again, and rolls up Christian for 2. Airplane spin but Tomko chokeslams him good to take over. Crowd is unusually hot tonight. Tomko powerslam gets 2. Christian comes in and hammers away, but Eugene hulks up and backdrops him. Hot tag Regal, but he gets hammered by Tomko from behind for 2. Back to the heel corner and Christian busts Regals nose. Regal fights back with knees but Christian gets a cheapshot from the apron and Tomko goes to a facelock. Tomko drops a knee on the nose and charges, but hits the corner and it's hot tag Eugene. The crowd errupts as Eugene handles both heels but lands funny on his knee on a dropkick. The match breaks down and the heels clothesline Regal out but Eugene manages a rollup on Tomko for the pin at 12:21. 2 1/2 stars.

Edge talks with Christian backstage and is scheming to get him involved in the world title match.

Match #2

Womens Championship Match

Lita Vs Trish Stratus

They do a catfight spot and Lita wins it. Lita does a Thesz Press off the apron and she blows out her knee. They wrap it up pretty quick afterwards as Trish gets the chick kick for the title at 3:45. JR talks about what a great competitor Lita is, but she was always kinda lazy and sloppy on the ring work. 1/2 star.

Edge tries to convince Bishoff to pull special referee Shawn Michaels and replace him with Christian. Bishoff shoots the idea down and Michaels confronts Edge and warns him "not to provoke Michaels"

Match #3

Intercontinental Championship Match

Shelton Bejamin Vs Maven

Maven bull****s for nearly 4 minutes outside the ring yakking at the crowd on a mic then fakes leaving but runs back in and gets pinned after nothing going on. He complains so Shelton pins him again after an exploder at 6:06. What garbage. DUD!!!

Match #4

Singles Match

Jerry The King Lawler w Jim Ross Vs Muhammad Hassan w Daivari

Since King and JR are occupied, they don't even bother with a replacement team.
They take turns bodyslamming to start. Hassan misses a charge into the corner and bails. They fight and head back in, where Hassan gets an elbow and takes off a turnbuckle pad. This allows Lawler to get a cradle for 2, but Hassan sends him into the corner and stomps. Hassan kills 3 or 4 minutes switching between the camel clutch and a chinlock and a suplex gets 2. Boring chant goes up pretty loud. Neckbreaker gets 2. Lawler makes the comeback and gets a dropkick and goes up for his weak diving fist drop finisher since the piledriver doesn't exist anymore. He gets a pretty good ddt on Hassan for 2. Daivari runs interference and JR threatens to hit him and the crowd gives them a cheap pop. In the confussion Hassan gets off a downward spiral for the pin at 10:50. Boring. 1/2 star.

Match #5

Singles Match

Kane Vs Snitsky

Kane's a good guy now, because Snitsky caused Lita to miscarriage the baby Kane made by raping her after beating Matt into injured reserve. Total **** story. But the match is alright. This is in the midst of the baby killer storyline. Crowd is in to it at times. JR apologizes for the match with the "bowling shoe ugly" comment. That usually means go get some lunch or hit the can. Kane gets a slam to start and drops an elbow and a leg, then chokes Genen. Kane powerslams him for 2. Snitsky comes back with a sideslam and a corner clothesline. Snitsky heads out and pulls up the mats outside, but gets backdropped on the bare floor. Back in, Kane goes up and eats boot on the way down. Snitsky kicks, punches and goes to the bearhug. Kane escapes and tries the chokeslam, but Snitsky counters with a bodyslam. Kane does the zombie situp and Snitsky kicksh im in the face. Snitsky grabs a chair, but Kane stops him and punches in the corner, then boots him down. Kane goes up for the flying clotheslinea and Snitsky fights back with a hotshot. Kane tries a chokeslam but Snitsky bites his ear to break. Kane finally gets the tombestone at 11:45 to win. 2 stars

Match #6

Raw Championship Elimination Chamber Match

HHH Vs Chris Jericho Vs Chris Benoit Vs Randy Orton Vs Edge Vs Batista

Special Referee: Shawn Michaels

The title was vacated in a screwy finish to a triple threat match between HHH/Benoit/Edge. Jericho and Benoit start and do their usual good stuff. They trade chops and Jericho goes for an early walls but Benoit counters into the germans and Jericho blocks that and Benoit tries for the crossface. Jericho blocks that and Benoit counters by taking him down, but Jericho escapes. Jericho hits him with the flashback for 2. Backdrop suplex gets 2. Jericho goes up and Benoit follows, and they fight, ending with a superplex. The 5 minute period ends and HHH heads in and beats them both up. HHH sends Benoit into the chains and then goes after Jericho. Benoit bleeds. HHH send Jericho into the chains for 2. Jericho saves him from a Pedigree, and then backdrops HHH onto the steel surrounding the ring. Out there, he drops HHH backfirst on the steel, and then suplexes him back into the ring. That gets 2. Benoit with a neckbreaker on Jericho for 2, Edge is next into the match. Edge spears everyone then gets dropkicked by Jericho, and Jericho chooses to cover HHH for 2 which was weird. He hits Edge with a springboard dropkick and goes back to Benoit. HHH lays out Edge with a knee and tries a Pedigree on the steel, but Edge reverses to a catapult into the steel and goes up with a flying clothesline on Benoit that for 2. Jericho starts bleeding as Benoit takes Edge down with a crossface attempt that gets blocked. Jericho comes back in with an enzuigiri on Edge for 2. HHH hits Jericho with a spinebuster for 2. Benoit gets a northern lights suplex on Edge for 2. HHH hits Jericho with a pedigree and before he can make a pin Orton is released from his pod and gets a flying cross body on the way in for 2. He dumps HHH and tosses him into the chain. Jericho tries to get involved and gets RKO'd, but Benoit goes for the crossface to counter another one and HHH taunts Orton then Benoit lets go and puts the sharpshooter on HHH. Orton breaks that up by RKO'ing Benoit. Edge sets up Orton for the spear, but misses and hits Shawn instead. He gets another one on Orton, but there's no ref. he picks up Shawn and tries to slap him awake and Shawn has had enough and superkicks his brains out and Jericho pins him after a lionsault. That was easy to call with the earlier altercation. HHH tries a pedigree on Jericho, but Benoit breaks up the Pedigree with the rolling germans and he climbs to the top of the cage and hits the diving headbutt on HHH. Jericho then puts HHH in the walls and Benoit adds the crossface, but Batista is released last from his pod and the chain gets stuck so they do the awkward "will he make it in time" I was calling for Batista to bust through the plexi glass but it didn't happen which kinda sucked. He clobbers everyone and gives Orton a spinebuster. Best moment of the match: Batista press slams Jericho out onto the platform and takes out a cameraman in the process. He chokes out Orton until Benoit clips him (pretty nasty looking) to save, and the faces all work Batista over until Jericho rolls up Orton for 2. HHH sends Orton into the chain, but then gets bulldogged by Jericho while Batista destroys Benoit. Benoit fights back and sends Batista into the cage, and HHH starts bleeding next. Batista spinebusters Benoit, then a spinebuster on Jericho, ONTO Benoit which knocks the wind out of him and Batista gets rid of Benoit. Jericho fights back, but gets batista bombed and he's gone. The remaining evolution guys work over Orton then Batista goes for another batista bomb but a ballshot/RKO combo ends his night and the crowd boo's it the most of anything on the show. Orton rallies and bounces HHH off the cage a few times. The ref's are trying to drag out the cameraman still and Michaels isn't paying attention when Batista sneaks back in and kills Orton with a clothesline and HHH takes about 90 seconds to get up give Orton a bad wedgie and the pedigree for his 10th title at 34:57. Sucked the air out of the match with that finish. I think it was a waste of time doing the title vacancy only because none of the other guys were "there" at this moment in there careers. HHH just gave up the belt so he could get closer to Flair's number. 3 1/2 stars.

Overall Opinion: The main event was fun with a wet blanket ending. This thing is supposed to be designed to STOP run ins. Now HHH has won two chamber matches in cheap fashion. Everything else was blah.

Final Score: A sucky 2.9 stars out of 10.0 stars for this show.
