No pointless love interest!

This isn't the best movie ever. It's a teen movie through and through. But at least there isn't a pointless, tacked on love interest for the main character. Most movies add on a side love story just to have a hot guy standing around. So it's nice that they were willing to let the story stand on it's own.

It's really great to see a story about a hot chick that doesn't dwell on some contrived romance. It goes along with Haley's whole independent & rebellious nature. She don't need no stinkin love interest.

That was the one thing I really liked about this movie. When they showed that she had two guy friends at the beginning, I was like "She better not end up with one of them, but I know it's totally gonna happen..." I was pleasantly surprised when they not only didn't have a romance develop, but that they also never even hinted at the possibility. Pretty sure I've never seen another movie that's done that.

I was pushing for Joanne to be Haley's love interest.

It was brilliant!

And I just got to the confrontation between the two friends over the angry gymnast girl. I liked the reveal that the blonde boy is gay (and non-stereotypically) and it was cool to see the other boy defend the idea of not having to conform to a tough guy "the man always wears the pants in the relationship" stereotype. Loved the moment where he put on the prom dress and was joking around in the store too.

It was great to see this movie upending so many boring stereotypes.

Stereotypes come from somewhere. The world is what it is not what you would like it to be.

Was he really gay or was his buddy just messing with him in front of his new girl?

I think he was just joking around. Cuz when the boys introduce themselves to the gymnasts, he calls Frank his 'hetero life mate', meaning they're just really great friends.

I agree. I am so tired of a love interest having to be in every movie. It is sickening.

I love that it focused on Haley figuring out who she was and what she wanted. She discovered that she loved gymnastics and that was what she wanted. I'm glad some guy didn't help her figure it out. It's a nice change.
