Help me understand some things SPOILERS

I saw this movie last night dubbed in Spanish. I am fairly ok at Spanish, but there were some things I definitely did not understand...
When Josef is explaining his trip to the beach, when he talks about his father and him going in the water, did his dad throw him in the water? I got that he said he didn't know how to swim, and that his dad didn't either...but was his dad walking him deeper and deeper into the water? or was he thrown? when he describes the "monster" that he saw and then woke up in the hospital, did he get stung by a jelly fish? Also, when she is explaing what happened to her, the "trauma", was she raped and then stabbed? If someone could fill me in on some of the major details that would help me understand this film so much better!

Josef didn't want to go into the water in the pedal boat his father rented. His father got angry and put him in the boat and pedalled like crazy. When they were far away from the coast, his father throwed him into the water. I think he does not say what the "monster" was.

About Hanna, you are right, she was raped and stabbed.

I think he either conjured, or imagined the monster since he always felt one was at the bottom of the ocean from an old TV show he used to watch. Having his father throw him in was enough to traumatize him like that. His father was stupid for doing something so awful, esp since he didn't know how to swim himself. Wonder how Josef got saved then?
