The music almost ruined the film

While the movie had great cinematography and good writting (not especially on dialog, but good scenes), I would like to say sometyhing about the music.

Petru Margineanu's music has almost completely ruined this film. The film could have had very powerful moments, but imaginative writing and good cinematography were dragged into a mud of insulting pathetism by the awful music. I think I remember one or two brief scenes where he music was helping, but that was it, in a 116 minutes movie.

The music was insulting for two reasons:

1. Technically, it sounded like a bad MIDI file. I can't believe it was actually used in a movie in year 2004.

2. More importantly, artistically. There were very little dominant theme-free moments, as if the score consisted of a succession of bad flea-market choruses. No subtlety or mood here, just in-your-face bad thematic assault. The thematic development consisted mostly of repeating the same 5-6 notes passage over and over, usually descending down the scale.

I don't mean to look down on someone's work, but this is either:

1. Carelesness - it would be ashame, since I believe there are other people out there that would love to compose film music.

2. Incompetency - in this case, Mr. Margineanu, please watch some more movies, listen to the score, otherwise you don't stand a chance of composing something better than insulting music.

Interesting. I thought that Orient Express was one of my best works.
Well, time will tell.
