missing subplots and footage

Besides the directors cut, Does anyone know what else was deleted.

Early reviews brought up a a shootout in the trailer park, instead of the stand off. Some promo photos, show tubbs firing his shotgun outside the trailer and sonny using cover and firing his machine gun.

Early trailers show a man with a bag on his head too.

I read somwhere, that the bag head is actually neptune. Sonnya nd crockett kidnap him and turn him over to the drug dealers or neptune is in fact the person who tried to jack them, and they capture and hand him over "Neptune will have his day"

Does anyone know if there is anything else missing?

Or was that just promo stuff

reply

The whole Neptun thing was a major subplot that unfortunately got chopped out. It all begins at the race , than it goes to a night club, the drugs and finally he gets caught.

I've heard somewhere that there was an actual footage of kidnapping Neptune.

Yes, there was a shootout in the trailer park (some claim that it was actually better than the final battle).

There was an extra bit on Tubbs relationship.

There were some extra scenes showing Crockett+Tubbs driving at night.

Extra scenes with Isabella+Crockett on the boat.

That's all I can recall right now. It's been 7 years since I've read about all these stuff.

Shame, because I really wanted to see the extra stuff. Who knows maybe it will see the light of day.

This is all true.

You can see bits and pieces of those missing scenes in trailers and promo stils.

I also read the early test screening reviews: Some people claimed that
the 'sting operation' where Neptune is caught was one of the movie's best scenes.

And the missing/alternative shootout in the trailer park was awesome.

The test screening version was nearly 3 hours in length.

Michael Mann could have made a very good, epic police thriller out of the footage.

The DC is definitely an improvement in every way, but you still have the main problems of 'Miami Vice' unsolved:

- The Neptune subplot goes nowhere
- Too little action

Could have been an A.

It's fnny that for a retrospect on mann films, He assembled a director's cut of Black Hat, but not this considering this did better then blackhat.

reply

I agree.

Mann should try to fix "Miami Vice" by solving the problems we talked about here.

The footage does exist somewhere.

If Oliver Stone did 4 edits of "Alexander", Mann can do a 3rd edit of "Miami Vice".

You know.... I can't seem to recall where I read this at....but I seem to recall reading that the very last scene was supposed to be Sonny laying on his side in bed wide awake with his wife's arm draped over his side. You can't see her, or her face and she says something to Sonny about being gone and undercover for too long. This happens after the hospital. Supposed to show you that's how deep he was undercover.

I don't know if I believe it or not, because he didn't show any concern about a family when Trudy was making up his identity, but man...that would have blown my mind.

Missing from the Theatrical release and Directors Cut.
- Extended race sequence
- Extended club sequence
- Extended neptune sub plot
- Extended Alonzo Stevens sequence including flash backs
- Extended Port-Au-Prince / different takes
- Longer diner sequence with Sonny Crockett / Ricardo Tubbs / Trudy Joplin
- Longer load #1 & #2 vessel sequence
- Longer Trudy Joplin kidnap sequence
- Longer paradise trailer park sequence - shot in a different location - also its raining.
- Longer shoot out and dialog at the end.
- Longer Key West sequence
- Same ending as the Theatrical release

The Sonny Crockett returning home to his wife was not in the 3++ hrs screening version. I recall Pieter Jan Brugge mentioned something about this claiming Crockett was deemed an unfaithful husband rather than a hero cop in the Q&A.

reply

Huh. Well thanks. Would love to see those missing scenes at some point.

I've been covering missing scenes from Miami Vice for ages now.
Did not know anything about any extended Alonzo Stevens sequence including flash backs, extended Port-Au-Prince / different takes, longer diner sequence with Sonny Crockett / Ricardo Tubbs / Trudy Joplin, longer Trudy Joplin kidnap sequence

I knew about longer paradise trailer park sequence but I did not realize that it was shot in a different location and in rain.
I could guess that it's take place immediately after the Trudy's rescue.

As for Neptun - there he is:
