There are rather high chances the Wii will flop; Sony has already established a much larger fan base than Nintendo, giving it a key advantage in the 7th Gen Race. Furthermore, if Nintendo continues to rely on it's 1st party devs as opposed to signing new 3rd party devs, it's going to get eaten alive.

Mind you, Nintendo came in dead last in the 6th Gen Race not because it was an inferior system, but rather because it failed to properly manage it's business and marketing department.

Anyways, I have high hopes for MP3:C, only for the sake it was released from the Wii. Had it been released for the GC, it would have lacked innovation and originality, leading to little success outside of Metroid Fans.

The way I see it:

Nintendo has a gameplan that should, in theory, work. Mom and Dad will buy this for their kid, and, if you look at GameFAQs polls and the like, the Wii is already very popular among hardcore gamers. Even those that have an affinity towards Sony and/or Microsoft have shown definite interest in the Wii, so the number of people that take Nintendo's system as their second (or third, I suppose) system will definitely have an impact on the overall numbers.

Microsoft is taking a linear approach, and it seems to be working. They aren't veering around trying to copy Nintendo's ideas or go in that direction, and it seems like what they're doing is working. What brings Microsoft to second place as opposed to first is that the closed-mindedness can only work to a point, and it isn't very consumer friendly beyond the adults that it is basically targeting. Furthermore, it is a complete failure in Japan, which will definitely leave a mark.

Sony is not only being arrogent, but they aren't even sticking to their strengths like they used to. They should really have just ignored Nintendo, pushed along with what they were doing, and try to beat out Microsoft. Instead, they're bringing in a 600 dollar console which only really has graphics and a few exclusive third parties to boast about. The PS2 had the worst graphics of the current systems and dominated. The PS3's graphics are going to be marginally better than Microsoft's. Marginally is not good enough for the price of two systems. Basically, if Sony wasn't so arrogent and greedy, they would have been able to keep superior third party support, offer their system to a broader market (read: people unwilling to spend 600 dollars on a console) and could have used their Japanese and US market to catapult them to either second or first place. EASILY.

I doubt the Wii will flop, buddeh.

I agree wholeheartedly with what Hawt23 has said.

I was wondering how would I connect the Wii to the Internet?
I plan on buying the Nintendo Wii, and was wondering how to connect it to the Internet? On wikipedia, it states that the Wii has 1 USB port, but no Ethernet port. Today, I bought a switch to connect my dorm room to the Internet, so I was wondering if the switch can help with my problem? I'm clueless as to how the Wii will connect to the Internet!

Wi-Fi operates from the console itself... it basically sends a signal from the console to a 'hot spot' which in turn relays it to the internet-based Wi-Fi, or you can buy a 'dongle' for your computer which the Wii can connect too - as long as you have internet connection you'll be alright.

Do a little research on it, hope this helps you.

If you take a look at Nintendo's stock since June, you will notice a 40% increase. Nintendo has established themseves as a dominant system here in America even before the systems release. I was sceptical at first, but now seeing how much control you really have, and how unique everything is I'd say its fair to say that they will not be struggeling at all this round.

They did have a hard time with their Gamecube, a completley underated console here in America. Although, in Japan Nintendo was neck and neck with Sony, and in dead last, and I mean dead, like 3% of total console sales, the XBOX.

My point is that Microsoft might have done well here, it did terrible in Japan, worse than terrible, worse than the Gamecube did here.

With the DS approaching it's 3rd year in the market, and having amazing sales, its no wonder why SO MANY developers, yes even 3rd party, are jumping aboard the Wii. The DS has already sold more systems that all the gamecubes in the world combined. And in current sales figures, has been the top selling console for many months here in America. This would explain the 31 launch titles that will be available for the Wii at launch.

Will Wii come out on top? I dont know, but I know for sure that it will not flop. The virtual console aspect of the system is enough to keep people playing, even if there are only a handful of awesome games in its history. Which I doubt.
