This is the only post in this ridiculous thread that's worth reading. Way to go, Earthling 12, you are the only person here with any brains at all. History is history, and that's where it belongs. If we keep bringing these issues up, then we can't progress as a society and we simply didn't learn anything from our past. Virtually every race in the planet has suffered from slavery and just plain racism, and the only way to deal with it is to rise above it and be successful, not to prove anything to society, but for yourself. I feel like a lot of the time, people use racism as an excuse to justify their own failures in life. Do you ever gain anything from blaming other races for your suffering? Does it make your life any better? I am Cuban, I have lived in many countries before, have been discriminated and put down countless times, but never have I gained anything from being the defensive racist, only from my hard work and ability to rise above it. There are countless examples throughout history of people growing up under incredible racism and economic hardship (much worse than what African Americans have endured here in US, mind you) that have gone on to be incredibly successful and influential(many examples from the Jewish community come to mind...) Hell, I will go as far as to say that all that racism and hardship was a motivator and a fuel for these people, as I know it certainly was for me. In a way, I thank every person that ever tried to put me down, because it pushed me to become a better person.
Folks, bottomline is: stop crying and feeling sorry for yourself for being discriminated against, it is part of life. Just get out there and be somebody!!! At that point, racism becomes not only irrelevant but virtually inexistent. I mean, I doubt Denzel Washington gets discriminated much these days. You get my point!
