What was she doing in the motel where she'd lost her earring? Was it implied that she was cheating as well? I'm a little lost as to why she would lash out at her husband if she was cheating herself?

I assumed it fell out when she was leaning down looking at Julie. This is why she wasn't sure what floor she was on and also why the husbands lighter was found in the same room.

In a shot before she enters the hotel, you can see her taking of one earring in the car. It was a way for her to find out if her husband was in that hotel or not...
