How is this the sequel to 'Heaven'?

check out the movie "Heaven".
someone said that this movie is kinda like a sequel to it.
can someone explain it to me?

reply

you know Krzysztof Kieblowski did the french trilogy Red, White and Blue? well this was supposed to be his follow up, another trilogy: Heaven, Hell and Purgatory, unfortunately he died in 1996 before he could complete it, and Hell's script was finished by Kieslowski's co-worker Krzysztof Piesiewicz. so yes, it is the sequel :)

reply

Well, you can't call really it a sequel, because there is no link between the two films at all, in terms of character, places, story, etc. However, L'enfer is indeed the second film of a trilogy initially conceived by Kieslowsky and Piesiewicz.

reply

It call still be referred to as a sequel, even if the stories aren't linked.

Sorry, but it can't I'm afraid!
A sequel is a work in literature, film, or other media that portrays events following those of a previous work usually continuing on from a previous storyline, sometimes featuring the same characters or settings. (isn't Wikipedia great!)
It could be described as a 'companion piece'.
The 3 films were meant to be seen as one body of work but that doesn't necessarily mean that any of them are sequels.
Great film though. I've never watched anything that Kieslowski was involved in without being totally immersed.

If you have ever seen the Three Colours Trilogy by Kieslowski, the Vengeance Trilogy by Chanwook Park (Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance) or the trilogy that includes (Amores Perros, 21 Grams and Babel) you will see that trilogies of theme are not only evident, but they are often far superior to trilogies of storyline (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back To The Future, Lord of the Rings)

Even The Man WIth No Name Trilogy has the same actors, but the characters and plot are completely different.

One of the few plot based trilogies that contends is the Godfather trilogy.

I love a good argument but the title of the thread is 'How is this the sequel to 'Heaven'?' and my reply was to 'Rainydays 182' who suggested it can be called a sequel. I never once suggested they weren't part of one body of work. Yes, I have seen the 'Trois Couleurs' trilogy and the same applies. All three films are meant to be watched as one artistic piece but it doesn't make any of them a 'sequel' or a 'prequel' for that matter.
I would also agree with your viewpoint about trilogies of theme, but that was never my issue.
Completely off-topic, I just watched 7 pounds and loved it!

I challenge you to name one better trilogy based on storyline to any of the theme based trilogies of Keislowski.

Hell is the second act or episode of a trilogy that Kieslowski was meant to direct. I wouldn't consider Hell a sequel to Heaven just as I don't consider Blue a sequel to White from "Three Colors Trilogy".
