You're not responsible for credit or debit purchases anyway
I don't know why people are so darn paranoid about cc fraud. You are not responsible for unauthorized charges to a cc. Federal law limits your liability to $50 but Visa/MC goes even further and limits your liability to $0.
Banks find it easier to pay fraud than fight it anyway. It's the merchants who get stuck when a stolen cc is used. The $ is taken from the merchant's acct and put into the cc acct and the bank charges an admin fee. Bank wins, crook wins, merchant loses. Online and mo/to merchants when a card is not present (swiped or imprinted) basically lose 100% of the time.
With regard to debit cards with Visa/MC logos...You should always swipe and sign for a purchase, NOT use a pin #. When you sign you are using Visa's network and are protected by them. When you enter a pin # you are not using Visa's network and are not protected. It's considered a cash wire xfer and it's a pain in the butt to dispute fraud. You're still protected by the fed law but it's not as easy.
