How did Connie get Michelle's info?

How did Connie get all of Michelle's info? Like her bank accounts and her address. Did Connie know Michelle or was she just random?

The FTC recently announced that the IDT problem will become 20 TIMES worse in the next 10 years. not 20%... 20 X !

I am one of the coordinators of NIDTAP: the National Identity Theft Awareness Program and I keep a database of TV news clips about IDT... they will shock you. go to www.plan4IDT.com and email me if you'd like to see them. Charlie

When Michelle turned in her paperwork for a home loan, Connie was the secretary that worked in the office. According to the movie, that was what happened. Connie stole all of Michelle's info, such as her credit card numbers and her address, and had a field day.Pretty messed up, isn't it? Hopefully, she'll get what's coming to her eventually.

That's what happened in the movie.

In real life, Michelle had never met "Connie" (her real name is Heidi). Heidi was filing paperwork for her boss and found Michelle's SIS number and decided to use it.

"It would seem that we're through with the past, but it's not through with us."

that scary how something as simple as a loan application can cause all this ....makes me think twice when i apply for loans

I guess the best way to keep from getting your identity stolen is to have crappy credit in the first place, don't give them a reason to steal anything!

reply

Sadly even "crappy" credit will not prevent ID theft as the crime is not just used to run up bills.

The really scary form of this is Synthetic Identity Theft where information from different sources is put together to create another new identity. So you can have one person's SSN being used with another person's name using yet another person's address.

What is scary about this form of ID theft is that it may not show up on your credit report because those reports are a COMBINATION of details. The danger is when unscrupulous collectors try to go get the money owed and use one of the pieces of information to create the new ID. As early as 2005 Synthetic Identity Theft made up 88% of all ID theft and was still on the rise.

I've never heard of that. That's scary

Before I saw this film, I didn't get why loan offices and banks checked employees credit and whatever, but after I saw this I understood it more. But anyway, it didn't happen the way it did in the movie. Michelle had never met Connie before and it wasn't that simple. I'm guessing the OP is asking how it happened for real.

I still pray for Lindsey Lohan.
