This film will remove Berlusconi from power at the election in 2006.....

Ciao, Forza Italia e nostro ministro Silvio Berlusconi.....
The utterly ingenius Nanni Moretti strikes again!

reply

Sadly, I don't think so. And I'm Italian.

reply

Hope is not lost

reply

Moretti (and all the followers of him) isn't smart enough to understand the "boomerang effect" this film will have to his career (surely), and (probably) to the elections in april.

After the Unipol affair, the communist capitalists, the D'Alema's boat, the 60 millions disappeared by Consorte and Sacchetti, how can Moretti polite to Berlusconi to be "rich" ?
If Berlusconi, the great thief Moretti always defined, was really so thief, why does he's acquitted in ALL the trials in which he was involved ?

What upsets me is that "The caiman" will go to Cannes, while "Viva Zapatero !" went to the Sundance film festival.
Italy needs to earn the honorability it deserves, but italians filmakers (Guzzanti and Moretti in these cases) seem to put before idiotic opinions instead of co-operate and raise italian cinema with bigger productions (or quality productions) and bigger film festivals.

I'm not scared of Moretti, Guzzanti, Benigni and other communist directors, but I suffer for my country, Italy, wounded, torn and unjustly dishonoured first from the same italians, then by the foreigners.

The Economist

One of Berlusconi's strongest critics in the media outside Italy is the British weekly The Economist (nicknamed by Berlusconi "The Ecommunist"). The war of words between Berlusconi and the Economist has been infamous and widely reported, with Berlusconi taking the publication to court in Rome and The Economist publishing open letters against him [8].

In any event, according to The Economist, Berlusconi, in his position as prime minister of Italy, now has effective control of 90% of all national television broadcasting. [9] This figure includes stations he owns directly as well as those he has indirect control of through his position as Prime Minister and his ability to influence the choice of the management bodies of these stations.

Legal investigations of Berlusconi
[edit]

Dilatory tactics

Silvio Berlusconi undoubtedly has a rather long record of judicial trials, as several crimes have been alleged to him or his firms (see also the following subsection on Berlusconi's trials), including false accounting, tax fraud, corruption and bribery of police officers and judges. Some of Berlusconi's close collaborators, friends and firm managers have been found guilty of related crimes, notably his younger brother, Paolo, who in 2002 accepted to pay 52 million euros as a plea bargain to local authorities for various charges including corruption and undue appropriation17. However, no definitive conviction sentence has ever been issued on Silvio Berlusconi himself for any of the trials which have concluded so far; in some cases he has been fully acquitted of the alleged charges, in others he has been acquitted with dubitative formula (not proven), or he was acquitted because the statute of limitations expired before a definitive sentence could be issued; in one case a previously granted amnesty extinguished the crime (perjury) before the sentence came into effect. The Italian legal system allows the statute of limitations to continue to run during the course of the trial. Consequently, the dilatory tactics adopted by Berlusconi's attorneys (including repeated motions for change of venue) served to nullify the pending charges.
[edit]

Member of Propaganda Due masonry lodge

Some of the suspects on Berlusconi's person arise from real or perceived blank spots in his past. Notably, in 1981 a scandal arose on the discovery by the police of Licio Gelli's secret freemasonry lodge (Propaganda Due, or P2) aiming to move the Italian political system in an authoritarian direction to oppose communism. A list of names was found of adherents of P2, which included members of the secret services and some prominent personalities from the political, industrial, military and press elite, among which Silvio Berlusconi, who was just starting to gain popularity as the founder and owner of "Canale 5" TV network. The P2 lodge was dissolved by the Italian parliament in December 1981 and a law was passed declaring similar organizations illegal, but no specific crimes were alleged to individual members of P2. Berlusconi later (1989) sued for libel three journalists who had written an article hinting at his involvement in financial crimes and in this occasion he declared in court that he had joined the P2 lodge "only a very short time before the scandal broke" and "he had not even paid the entry fee". Such statements, however, conflicted with the findings of the parliamentary commission appointed to investigate the lodge's activity, with material evidence, and even with previous testimony of Berlusconi, all of which showing that he had actually been a member of P2 since 1978 and had indeed paid a 100,000 Italian liras entry fee. Because of this a court of appeal convicted him for perjury in 1990, but the crime was extinguished by the previous 1989 amnesty.

Entrepreneurial career, Bettino Craxi & Mafia

Berlusconi's career as an entrepreneur is also often questioned by his detractors. The allegations made against him generally include suspects about the extremely fast increase of his activity as a construction entrepreneur in years 1961-63, hinting at the possibility that in those years he received money from unknown and possibly illegal sources. These accusations are regarded by Berlusconi and his supporters as empty slander, trying to undermine Berlusconi's reputation of a self-made man. Frequently cited by opponents are also events dating to the 1980s, including supposed "favor exchanges" between Berlusconi and the former prime minister Bettino Craxi, indicted in 1990-91 for various corruption charges; and even possible connections to the Italian Mafia, the latter accusations arising mostly from the above mentioned hiring of Vittorio Mangano4. Berlusconi acknowledges a personal friendship only to Craxi, and of course denies any ties to the Mafia. Heated debate on this issue was recently (2004) triggered again when Marcello Dell'Utri, the manager (later managing director) of Berlusconi`s publishing company Publitalia 80 and a Forza Italia senator and long time friend of Berlusconi, was sentenced to 9 years by the Palermo court on charge of "external association to the Mafia" 5, a sentence on which Berlusconi refused to comment.

On some occasions, which raised a strong upheaval in the Italian political opposition, laws passed by the Berlusconi administration have effectively delayed ongoing trials on him, allowing the statute of limitations to expire, or stopped them entirely. Relevant examples are the law reducing punishment for all cases of false accounting; the new law on international rogatories, which made his Swiss bank records unusable in court against him 6; the law on legitimate suspicion, which allowed defendants to request their cases to be moved to another court if they believe that the local judges are biased against them 7,8; and most importantly the lodo Maccanico law, passed in June 2003, which granted the highest five state officers, including the Prime Minister, immunity from prosecution while in office2. This law froze Berlusconi's position in the SME-Ariosto trial in which he was accused of having corrupted judges in previous legal rulings regarding his partecipation in the public auction of the state-owned food company SME in the 1980s. However, the trial was not frozen for other defendants, and the former lawyer of Berlusconi's main firm (Fininvest) and former Italian defence minister, Cesare Previti, was sentenced to 5 years although the crime was reduced from corruption of judges to simple corruption 9,10. In January 2004 the Lodo Maccanico was nullified by the Constitutional court as it was ruled to be in conflict with the Italian constitution. Subsequently Berlusconi has declared his intent to re-introduce the law using the correct procedure for constitutional modification. Because of these legislative acts, political opponents accuse Berlusconi of passing ad personam laws, to protect himself from legal charges; Berlusconi and his allies, on the other hand, maintain that such laws are consistent with everyone's right to a rapid and just trial, and with the principle of presumption of innocence (garantismo); furthermore, they claim that Berlusconi is subject to a judiciary persecution, a political witch hunt orchestrated by politicized (left-wing) judges 11.

For such reasons, Berlusconi and his government have an ongoing quarrel with the Italian judiciary, which reached its peak in 2003 when Berlusconi commented to a foreign journalist that judges are "mentally disturbed" and "anthropologically different from the rest of the human race", remarks that he later claimed he meant to be directed to specific judges only, and of a humorous nature12. More seriously, the Berlusconi administration has long been planning a judiciary reform intended to limit the arbitrariness allowed to the judges in their decisions (for example by introducing civil liability on the consequences of their sentences), but which, according to its critics, will instead limit the magistrature's independence, by de facto subjecting the judiciary to the executive's control. This reform has met almost unanimous dissent from the Italian judges 13,14 and, after three years of debate and struggle, was passed by the Italian parliament in December 2004, but was immediately vetoed by the Italian President, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi 15, who said some of the passed laws were "clearly unconstitutional". Presently (February 2005) the law is in process of being re-examined by the parliament, taking into account the President's objections on its constitutionality.

Berlusconi has also been indicted in Spain for charges of tax fraud and violation of anti-trust laws regarding the private TV network Telecinco, but his status as a member of the European Parliament allowed him to gain immunity from prosecution 16.

Influence on the Media

Berlusconi's extensive control of the media has been linked to claims that Italy's media shows limited freedom of expression. The Freedom of the Press 2004 Global Survey, an annual study issued by the American organization Freedom House, downgraded Italy's ranking from 'Free' to 'Partly Free' [10] on the basis of Berlusconi's influence over RAI, a ranking which, in "Western Europe" was shared only with Turkey (2005). Reporters Without Borders states that in 2004, "The conflict of interests involving prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and his vast media empire was still not resolved and continued to threaten news diversity".[11] In April 2004, the International Federation of Journalists joined the criticism, objecting to the passage of a law vetoed by Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in 2003, which critics believe is designed to protect Berlusconi's alleged 90% control of national media. [12]

Berlusconi's influence over RAI became evident when in Sofia, Bulgaria he expressed his views on the journalists Enzo Biagi, Michele Santoro [13], and comedian Daniele Luttazzi after his satiric behaviour and his interview with journalist Marco Travaglio. The four have never appeared in any TV shows since then. Left-wing politicians and media refer to this episode as the Sofia Diktat. The TV broadcasting of a satirical program called RAIOT was censored in November 2003 after the comedienne, Sabina Guzzanti, made outspoken criticism of the Berlusconi media empire [14]. Mediaset, one of Berlusconi's companies, sued the Italian state broadcasting company RAI because of the Guzzanti show asking for 20 million Euros for "damages" and from November 2003 she was forced to appear only in theatres around Italy.

In response to such claims, Mediaset, Berlusconi's television group, has stated that it uses the same criteria as the public (state-owned) television RAI in assigning a proper visibility to all the most important political parties and movements (the so-called 'Par Condicio'). It is also true that while the distribution of newspapers in Italy is lower than most other European countries (100 copies per 1000 individuals compared to 500 per 1000 in Scandinavian countries [15]), the majority of national press, which includes the three largest Italian printed dailies, La Repubblica, Il Corriere della Sera and La Stampa, tends to report independently of the Berlusconi government or (in the case of La Repubblica, among the three major newspapers cited above) to be very openly critical of it. Yet the resignations of the director of Corriere della Sera, Ferruccio de Bortoli, were seen as a grasp for more media control from the government. In fact the FNSI, the Trade Union for Italian Journalists, organized a three day long strike to show support to the former director of the newspaper.

reply

What the Economist says is pure trash.

If you'd have a minimal Q.I. of 100 you'd understood it by yourself, but that's not your case ! Sorry !

reply

I'm not scared of Moretti, Guzzanti, Benigni and other communist directors, but I suffer for my country, Italy, wounded, torn and unjustly dishonoured first from the same italians, then by the foreigners.

I suffer too, but I suffer because Berlusconi is destroying my country, its democracy and our lives. He is one of the most ignorant, incompetent but still arrogant politician Italy has ever had. Hopefully his ruling for his personal interest will come to an end this spring.

If you haven't understood that we actually live under competitive authoritarism probably is because you are one of the privileged like him that take advantage of the situation or you have an I.Q. below 20.

You don't need to read the Economist to understand what is hapening just look at the reality and before being so arrogant maybe you should take some more classes in polisci or economy

reply

The arrogance is yours "onlyanoutsider", that you give me a I.Q. that neither exists ! Come back to the 4th elementary class, please !

He's incompetent ? He's ignorant ? He's a dictator ? He destroyed Italy ?
WOW that's really a deep deep deep analysis, really praiseworthy !

The facts :

Prodi: Euro-tax: 90.000 lire (70 € now) per family -- License Driving Tax: 70.000 lire/year per (driving) person (55 € now) -- Inflation: 4,5 % in 1997 -- Growth in 1996-2001: 1,5 % (2,5 % the average in Europe, 1 point below) -- The co.co.co ! The REAL precarius jobs, not the Biagi reform that Bertinotti & co. want to erase. Horrible figures in foreign policy like in the Ocalan case, the Cermis massacre, the Arcobaleno Mission, the return of Silvia Baraldini, the war in Balkans

Berlusconi: Taxation reduced from 45,1 % to 40,9 % -- Unemployment rate reduced from 9,6 % to 7,1 % (in the south of Italy from 20,8 % to 14,1 %) -- inflation: 2,1 % -- The points in License Driving -- The great Biagi (a center-left man!) reform approved -- The school and university reform (Tullio De Mauro attempted in 2000 but wretchedly failed!) -- the Great Public Works like MOSE, the bridge of Messina, the TAVs (not just in Piemonte; Berlin-Palermo, Genova-Amsterdam too) approved and now starting -- Justice: the separation between judges and public prosecutors (like in EVERY G8-Nation) -- growth of 0,75 %/year in 2001-2006 against a 1,4 % in Europe, 0,65 % below (but the higher growth rates come from Finland, Luxembourg, Austria, Holland, not from the "tractors" of Europe, like Germany. In 2002-2005 our growth rate was double the germans! 0,6 % against 0,3 % - France in 2004 made -0,3 % )

I could go on 'till tomorrow to explain you that I don't need ANY politics classes.
I'm not rich, for your information, and I live with 900 € / month.

Can you confute ONE of my data ? I'm waiting !

reply

I'm still waiting for someone who could be able to dismantle the HORRENDOUS data about Prodi, and confute the good (not excellent !) work of Berlusconi (above it's a summary).

I've forgotten the newspapers :

Corriere della Sera : LEFT - 900.000 copies
La Repubblica : LEFT - 850.000 copies
La Stampa (Anselmi, the chief-editor comes from L'Unità !!!) - LEFT - 500.000 copies
L'Unità - LEFT - 70.000 copies
Il Messaggero - LEFT - 250.000 copies
Others LEFT newspapers (estimated) Manifesto, LiberAzione, others - 100.000 copies

TOTAL : 2.670.000 copies / day --- [ 8.000.000 of people reached ]

Libero -- RIGHT -- 150.000 copies
Il Giornale -- RIGHT -- 310.000 copies
Il Resto del Carlino - La Nazione - Il Giorno -- RIGHT -- 500.000 copies
Other RIGHT newspapers (estimated) -- 40.000 copies

TOTAL : 1.000.000 copies / day ---- [ 3.000.000 of people reached ]

CENTER-LEFT NEWSPAPERS : 73 % CENTER-RIGHT NEWSPAPERS : 27 %

We should add "La Gazzetta dello Sport", owned by Il Corriere della Sera, that talks about SPORT, but if it needs to talk about politics, ideas are the same of Corsera.

Gazzetta dello Sport -- 1.050.000 copies / day ---> 3.720.000 copies (79 % - 21 %, like Berlusconi said !!!)

Please, please, blame me.......if you CAN !

Do you really think other premiers, in Europe, Asia, America, re-elected, made miracles ? I'm sure: NO. Reagan, Clinton, Thatcher, Koizumi, Mitterand, Aznar, Schroeder made a "good job". Not miracles.

Le CAZZATE Gaetano, please, LE DICI TU !

Giovanni Agnelli was saved by Tangentopoli and other scandals through his friendships with the Left-estabilishment - He's not communist, but his friend Romiti (editor of RCS) and Caracciolo/De Benedetti (editors of Repubblica-L'Espresso) hired chief-editors to all appearances "conservative", like Mieli, Folli, De Bortoli, Ottone, Ostellino, but deep-rooted with the left parties (maybe to quit the Trade Unions).
La Stampa: Marcello Sorgi, Giulio Anselmi (comes from L'Unità!!!), Ezio Mauro (now chief-editor of La Repubblica!!), all of them deeply left-embedded.

Justice: Take a G8-State and all the judges of the Supreme Court (la Cassazione in Italia) are chosen directly by the prime minister or the President. Bush does it. Putin does it. Blair does it. INFORMATI TU, IGNORANTE !
And if... Berlusconi would choose the Cassazione members (to imitate the other countries) ? Why not ? The countries you consider soooooooo advanced do it !

Public prosecutor/Judges -- In the first grade of a trial the public prosecutor is Mario Rossi. You're judged guilty. In the second grade of the trial you find Mario Rossi as you judge! What should you think ? The verdict will be equitable or not ?

3 Televisions -- Berlusconi DOESN'T own anymore Canale 5, Italia 1 and Rete4. End of the story. These are the great *beep* you like to spread.
You say "buy 3 televisions" ?!? Berlusconi created Mediaset in the early 80s when he wasn't a politician. When he founded Forza Italia he left to his family (very talented entrepreneurs, D'Alema said an Italian Wealth talking about Mediaset) and the three channels remained independent. So independent that the most famous journalists (Fede apart) are all left-oriented. Not bolshevik, but left.

Prodi is the tax-man.
The taxation data are unsteady. Berlusconi says 45,1 % - on Istat site is 43,0 %. Anyway over 2 points reduced. A good work. Other taxes can't be removed because are regional or municipal. Like ICI or utilities (dark waters, rubbish).

You're just able to insult, but you should document your data before attack someone.

Tutto gira intorno a Berlusconi ?

Adesso quest'altra balla sui diritti televisivi.

Maybe you ashould take some history classes (too). Reagan and Clinton were *Presidents* not Prime Ministers. There are no Prime Ministers in the US political system. Speaking of which, I know one President who made miracles: FDR.

Who taught you English? You write the worst ItaliEse I have seen in years. And who pays you?

reply

I perfectly know that Clinton and Reagan are president and not premiers.
This is totally irrilevant. I talked about the men who guided their nations.

Prime ministers in Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany, Nederlands (constitutional republics)... have similar offices as Presidents in USA, Russia, France (presidential republics).

I DON'T NEED history classes, I'm well informed, thanks !!

reply

Constitutional republics? Not Great Britain, Spain, Netherlands. They are Parliamentary/Constitutional Monarchies. Quite irrelevant, really, but I just thought I'd point it out.

reply

I haven't seen the film, but I've read one of the quotes: "the ones who want to know the truth, already know it. The ones who don't want to see it, turn their faces the other way" or something to this effect.
The truth is, and we all know it, that all the Italians who voted for Berlusconi are exactly like him: "taxes? Only poor people pay taxes". His electors know at heart that no one in Italy can make that much money totally honestly. But they simply don't care, because at heart they are exactly like him or would like to be: they want him to look after their interests, which he did, by decriminalising false accounting and by shortening the statute of limitations from 15 to 7 1/2 years, laws that Berlusconi made "per direttissima" when he got in government, in a country where making laws takes decades (but obviously not when they are made to protect himself and his army of crooks).
As for B's legal entanglements: Marcello Dell'Utri, his former right-hand man and founder of Forza Italia, is now serving 7 or 9 years in prison for collusion with Mafia. But of course B. is not involved...

reply

Hi. I am here to confute some of your statistics, first, not data, this word doesn't exist in english dictionaries.
1) Unemployment rate: As you know (because if you write of something is supposed you know what are talking about) this rate is given by the people who are looking for a job. The rate is taken from the so called " registro di disoccupazione", where people inscribe themselves to get the "sussidio". If there are less people who inscribe in it, the rate will go down, so this is not something to be proud. It means just that people had renounced to look for.
2) Inflation: macroeconomics theory says that is not true that, if the inflation rate stand still, it's a good thing. Sometimes (and this is our case) it means that the country is not growing and it don't generate wealth.
3) The school reform. It wasn't better to fight the absenteeism and the low level of education given in our school? (Or it is better to keep people ignorant?)
4) The MOSE will be a falure, a work who will destroy the entire "laguna" and all the animal and vegetable species who live in there. The bridge will fall down in a 100 years thanks to the tectonc movements and the project has been stopped in the European commission.
5)In 2000 a study of BCE said that Italy was going towards an economic crisis ( a recessive one) and asked the future governements to apply some rules and some directives that could help the economic system to bear the weight of this crisis. Yor beloved Berlusconi did something? It seems to me he left factories flee from the country to go where the tax regime is more favourable, leaving lots of italian person without a job. And obliouvsly not the rich ones.

Any more???

THAT IS, FOR NON-ITALIAN SPEAKERS:

... anyway, although the topic here used to be cinema, not politics, maybe some geniuses of the right-handed thought such as Squitieri or Pingitore, or even Mel Gibson could have directed some good piece of film to stop, using their trash-esthetics, the wave of these "communist" directors. Today (26-3-2006) Mr. Berlusconi did his best throwing the usual fried s**t from his light-blue stage, in front of his own supporters, but he looked like a haunted fox. The question is: did you realize how ridiculous he made our Country during the past five years?

YOU ARE TRASH! You humiliate being Italian! Are YOU talking about Q.I.? Everyone saying what Berlusconi really is and really made is trash, isn't it? You close your eyes and go ahead because you don't have any intelligence to understand what's going on around you. Otherwise, what's happening in Italy is handy for you! But if somewhere, sometimes, two fool assassins like Hitler and Mussolini kept the power, it must have been there people like you letting them do what they wanted. You deserve whom you are governed by! And if, in your sick opinion, current Italian Left is Communism, I remember to you that Alessandra Mussolini (!!), Gianfranco Fini and their friends (all Berlusconi's allies) directly come from Fascism. Not talking about Lega Nord, expeled from European Union...
But you DON'T WANT to understand... So, keep what you've got! I feel shame for you...

For some, cinema and life are one and the same.

"Visconti, Rossellini, Petri, Lattuada and others belong to the PAST. When do you live ?!? In 1976 or in 2006 ?"

So, we should discard them because they belong to the past?? This is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard.

"We should be proud of the REAL italian contemporary cinema"

I don't need you to teach me this stuff. I have a Ph.D. in film studies and know these titles and directors very well.

"Come back to Elementary School before write !!"

Before *writing.* The preposition *before* needs a gerund (in English) not an infinitive tense (like in Italian). Not only are you unaware of the rules of English grammar -- you cannot tell the difference between a typo ("ashould") and a mistake ("before write"), *and* you are sexist:

"You joke the guy who can't speak english, but your "ASHOULD" it's a funny maccaroni-english ! AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA !! Che ZAPPA NEI PIEDI CHE TI SEI DATO !!

What makes you think that I am a man? Sexist assumption.

Please noblaquadro, as someone who has lived in this country for 20 years and taken a Linguistics Degree in the meantime, I may have the authority to tell you not to judge other people's English as yours is not that brilliant either. Maybe you meant to write that Verdone and Vanzina are barely KNOWN (rather than "unknown" outside OF Italy), and this is only one tiny detail, I'm not going to be the teacher that marks the pupils' homework. But since I don't know many anglophones who speak and write Italian fluently and correctly, I'm not on this forum to judge people's English language skills. We are on this forum to discuss Moretti's film. All the political talk should already be banished, but attacking people's language skills is a bit like Berlusconi coming up with statistics when he can't give a proper answer. And insulting people and their IQ is like Berlusconi accusing the Chinese of boiling babies or calling Italians coglioni. It's the lowest of the low, it's bullying tactics. I can now see why you are such a Berlusconi apologist: you are exactly like him.

7.6 Ecce Bombo
7.2 Sogni d'Oro
7.0 Bianca
7.6 La messa è finita
7.6 Palombella Rossa
7.2 Caro Diario
6.9 Aprile

Direi di no !

Certo !

Aveva fatto domanda all'IperCoop, come capo-reparto.

Capito ?

Lavorare, signori, lavorare !

P.S. - Mi hai chiamato nabla(silvio)quadro ! Grazie ! Ne sono onorato !
Posso chiamarti Gaetano(Stalin)R ? Ti pregooooooooo !

La citazione di Kennedy "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" e' sfuggita a Berlusconi...

Just another thing !

You often dereail the conversation (when you realize to be wrong) saying that "this is a cinema forum", "we should talk about cinema" bla bla bla....

If you want to talk about cinema, and about this movie, open a new thread (you can do it! believe me !) and talk exclusively about Il Caimano ! Nothing is easier !

The starter of this thread said "This film will remove Berlusconi from power at the election in 2006". That's not a thread about cinema, but a political argument.

You can stay in this forum and prove something with/or against me, but if this conversation doesn't amuse you, you can start new threads and talk in different places.

First of all, I'm neither a Berlusconi supporter, nor I'm very interested in politics, but I wonder why Nanni Moretti doesn't run in the election, if he thinks he can do better, since criticizing is always much more easier than making things!
He could only play ring-a-ring-o'-roses!
As regards the fact his film can influence people so that they won't vote for Berlusconi in the next election, maybe Moretti gives too much importance to himself, just as Berlusconi does!
He's quite unpleasant, and he needs a fair bit of modesty!
They said Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 would have also influenced people...and George W. Bush was elected again!

You don't realize that whoever will win the election will put us it in the ass! Power goes to everyone's head!
Did the left do better when it governed?
What about the hidden fundings from Soviet Union?

Siamo rimasti a 60 anni fa, come cultura politica, come progresso economico e tecnologico e come sviluppo sociale.

Forget the politics and let's back to the film please! Shame on you all for your behavior.

I think all these users they haven't seen a single shot from "Il Caimano". It's not a movie ON Berlusconi, such as Moore's Fahrenheit stands against the President of the USA George W. Bush. It's about all those people who are strongly obsessed by Berlusconi and his Power (see what Pasolini says about power and greed in "Petrolio", his last and ultimate masterpiece, concerning "the fascism fascination") and they cannot understand they have played his game all these years. Moretti doesnt add a single thing or clue to what we already knew about Berlusconi, and he seems to claim it clearly.
I guess the real power of this movie stays elsewhere. It's a powerful tribute to the b-movie cinema and a sad statement on the Italian way of life decadence (whose rust is everywhere: society, politics, media, film industry). And nonetheless, it's a strong comeback of one of the best italian film makers of the last 30 years.

Anyway, I'm not what you can call a "fan" of Nanni Moretti, but this is truly an excellent film.

A++

Aveva ragione.

Sono stupito. Non sapevo che potevo scrivere in italiano. È la prima volta. Vi pare bene? Ciao, buona sera!

OH my God, that's soooo sweet (you writing in Italian for the first time, I mean). I haven't seen this film either, I live in Britain and I'm not sure if the film will get a distribution deal here at all. I'll have to catch it when I go to Italy next. Or get it on DVD when it comes out. I'm a real fan of Moretti, who undoubtedly polarises people in those who love him and those who hate him because, even when his films are not too political, they are still entrenched in Italian society in a way other Italian films aren't. Italy is a complicated country, it's always been divided in two, the reds and the blues, except our blues descend from the Black Shirts of Mussolini. Mussolini is also thought of as a joke nowadays, but Italians weren't laughing when they were being assassinated, exiled or gassed in concentration camps (although, admittedly, the last bit only happened when Italy became the enemy of Germany and Germany invaded). What people don't seem to understand is that no politician wakes up one morning and suddenly declares the country a military dictatorship. Dictatorships evolve little by little, starting with silencing dissenting voices, like Berlusconi has done in the past 5 years, sacking journalists and satirists from Italian state television RAI. Unthinkable in democratic countries. We are indeed Latin America!!

E a proposito, GODARD, quel PH.D (dottorato) in cinema puoi mettertelo nelle terga !

I giornalisti esteri vivono poco in Italia.

L'unico (forse) stimato in Europa è Mario Monti, sempre in prima fila a parlar male dell'Italia. Tutto torna, no ?

Ora, faccio fatica a credere a quei dati.

Vi viene in tasca qualcosa ?

cordialmente

Well, I saw it two days ago and first, I don't think it's gonna move votes from right to left. It's only a movie, I agree with people who says that everything shown in it is just well known to everyone, and I don't think is a "only for reds"movie too. Silvio Orlando is great, Margherita Buy is ok, Michele Placido is more and more incredible(after the character played in this movie and Arrivederci Amore Ciao, definitely forget Commissario Cattani)and I enjoyed myself watching the first part of Il Caimano. The second one is a little too strange(I never was a Moretti's fan)and the end is fantastic, totally unexpected!
The strongest feeling you can find in it is the big love for cinema. This movie is Moretti's personal gift to Italian cinema, but maybe a lot of people are too focused in the political aspect to realize it.
Well, everybody can go and see it without prejudice, and after, but ONLY after the screening, can tell his thoughts, reflections, anger,...Not before.
That's for people like Nablaquadro: the only propaganda you can see in this thread is your personal vision of italian history. It's YOUR opinion, not something objective. In Il Caimano, the references to reality are objective. And where's the problem? It's just a movie. And it shows a part of italian history. And italian history is 70's bmovies, crisis and Berlusconi's rise to power too. And many other things, of course. Where's the problem? Has anybody something to be ashamed of?

reply
