I never understand the ending!!!

Why do they have to seperate?? the two best friends, why couldnt jojos character just live with emma roberts? Its so dumb you wait until the end of the movie and then theres no finality, they just go their seperate ways.

I guess Emma's character had to try being tied from Jojo for a while so she wouldn't be in anyone's shadow and show her strength...

jojo was moving away far far away.

I think the movie wanted to end on a bittersweet note and express that even fairy tales don't always have perfect, gift-wrapped endings. Just because Emma and Jo Jo are moving to opposite sides of the planet doesn't mean they won't remain friends. I thought it was a great ending.

The last thing horror fans should be is elitist.

Its completely unrealistic and ridiculous for the girls' mother to leave behind her adolescent daughter while she moves to another HEMISPHERE. From a parental point of view, that is insanity. No one would do it. Well very few anyway. Not to mention the strain it would put on Claire's grandparents.

I agree it felt sad that the movie couldn't end with the two girls staying together. If Hailey couldn't stay, perhaps Claire could have gone with her to Australia. From an emotional point of view, that type of ending would have been better. HOWEVER, from a realistic point of view, the ending was better this way.

Like someone else mentioned, it is unlikely that any parent would allow her teenage daughter to remain behind while she herself moved to the other side of the world. Particularly not a preteen or young teenager like Hailey. Likewise it is unlikely that Claire's grandparents (or was it aunt and uncle?) would allow her to go with her best friend to live in another country.

I also think they wanted to turn it into a life lesson by doing this way. They wanted to show that the girls' friendship was strong enough to survive the long distance between them. Even if they no longer lived next door, they would still be friends.
Plus, it was also a lesson of compassion and understanding of other people's feelings. In a way, the desire to stay together in Florida could be viewed as selfish - if considering Hailey's mother, who had worked all her life to fulfill this dream of hers of doing the kind of work that she was going to do in Australia. During the most part of the movie, both Hailey and Claire were determined to use their wish reward from helping Aqua in order to make Hailey's mother change her mind about accepting the new job. But towards the end of the movie, Hailey realized that that wouldn't be fair to her mom, since she had worked so hard for this. So you can say that this shows that Hailey had matured and grown as a person, since she was able to put her mom's wishes and needs ahead of her own.

You could also argue that it was necessary for Claire's character growth. It seems like she's the one pressuring Hailey into staying. I'd probably say that Claire is emotionally dependant on Hailey ever since her parents died. That kind of thing isn't healthy. Claire will now have to cope on her own without depending on her best friend, which will be better for her in the long run

I'm gonna die of long hair!
