Let's get one thing striaght. It doesn't matter what Hollywood does, it's the viewers that determine the course of action. If Hollywood produced low-grade fecal matter, and we eat it and want more, well, they will make more.
That being said, Hollywood knows if they turn out any CGI movie, advertise it to death on Nikelodian, and a few network prime time spots to give the parents reference, we will drag the entire family out to see it. As will essentially anyone with kids between the ages of 4 and 9. AND once we go see it, our kids will ask, in the parking lot, "when can we BUY it on DVD"? Kids aren't discriminating movie goers, as going to the movies is a special treat, and they don't place value in the equation.
So, pop out any blase flick, get the kids there, sell the DVD 4 weeks after, and run away with the money! And WE continue to promote this as we have a hard time telling little Johhny and his puppy dog eyes "No, we're not going to that movie as it is getting horrible reviews and I don't want to lay down $70 to take us all to see junk". Me included, so we're stuck when it comes to "kids movies" which is what CGI has been typecast.
So, either accept the fact kids movies will continue to have more than thier share of flops we pay dearly to see, or stop taking the family to see them. Pixar manages to turn out a good product, and I really enjoyed Cars. So we either have to raga against the machine, or suck it up and continue draggin the kids to see movies where we'd rather be drinking battery acid than watch.
BTW: I didn't think Ant Bully was too bad, but agree... who cares on the voice? I too didn't know that was Mr. Cage... and still don't care.
