My two year old walked out.

I couldn't believe it myself. He has seen about 10 movies now and enjoyed them all and loves ants. He just grabbed my hand and said were leaving. He hated it. I guess that most of the movie took place underground, well at least the first 50 minutes, and being so dark, it just bored him to death.

The previews looked good, but dont really show what kind of movie this is.

Organic_6, please explain why moviegoers deserve a refund for this. You just made the comment without basing it on anything. Once again, patrons to IMDB show either laziness or just plain unfounded contempt when criticizing movies. You can't say something's good or bad unless you say why it's good or bad - otherwise your viewpoint is meaningless.

I never saw the movie. I'll watch it and then write a post as to why I think it was either good or bad. But wanting a refund for a movie is really just saying that the movie was one of the worst movies you've ever seen.

Again, I haven't watched Ant Bully yet, but I don't really know how someone can just say that strong of a statement without backing it up with anything.

Never thought I'd be criticizing critics, but it seems that's all I do on IMDB (because hardly anybody says anything but "great" or "terrible" and that's it).

reply

I disagree. Saying something is terrible doesn't need to be explained. If someone were to ask you wether or not you liked vanilla icecream, you wouldn't say "I don't like the way vanilla taste in my mouth" would you?

However - I do agree that saying you wan't a refund for a movie without saying why seems like laziness.

just my 1 cent :(

reply

LOL thats so funny, a 2 year old walking out of a movie hahahahahaha!

reply

um well its quite obvious why you wouldn't like vanilla..beucase you don't prefer the taste or another obvious reason. but for something like a movie, well there are more than just four aspects you might not like..

not trying to critisize just saying that was a bad example..

bist du beschauert oda was?

reply

Asking whether you like vanilla icecream is not the same as asking whether you think a movie is good. You could say "I like movies" or "I don't like movies" and nobody could fault you for it because it's just one of those things you don't have to justify, like your favourite colour, season or type of food. Mine's pizza. I don't have to give any reasons why I like pizza the best, but I can tell you the best pizza I've had, and I could tell you exactly why I thought it was the best.

I think since we're on this site we can safely assume that we all like movies. We all like pizza. But simply saying the pizza from one restaurant is better or worse than that from another, particularly if there is any contention over it, is not enough. In order for your opinion to be validated, and possibly even bring others round to your point of view, you have to state why you think one place's pizza is better than the other. That's what makes a discussion, otherwise it's just a bunch of dogs yapping their opinions across the hedge at each other.

I heard that babies were crawling out of the theatre in protest...

reply

And did YOU like it? Two year old? Sorry, stick to the little kid stuff, this is your kid, so I don't really know him, but seriously, you can't expect him to understand everything. So, he would probably get bored.

If my kid got freaked out (I wouldn't bring a 2 year old) I would make him stay a little longer to see if the movie would get better. He would probably fall asleep. I would take my kid out if he REALLY didn't like this movie.

reply

No, they were just Republicans.

reply

LOL man.

Signature still currently in the works...coming soon!

reply

I was glad when my 8 year old asked me for a refill of soda. I wanted out too.

reply

After rebuking The Ant Bully, the young man lead his father across the street to an art house theater in the midst of a 24-hour Ingmar Bergman festival.

The youth was heard to exclaim, "Now your talking!" Because, while also being dark and boring, at least Bergman's use of and black and white cinematography and lengthy scenes sans dialog, make his films interesting, watchable and entertaining. He emerged, hours later, a life-long Max Von Sydow fan.

reply

I would have walked out, but I'd rather be watching something (anything at freakin all) than be sitting on a bench for an hour waiting for the bus (the bus system in my town is about as good as this movie.

some people watch porn. I watch car crashes.

reply

I thought the kid took the parent to the Fast and Furious and when that was too slow with not enough car chases or crash scenes, they both went home and drank a beer?

reply

Who the hell takes a two-year old to a movie? Of course they're going to get restless. Hello! Seriously, using that experience as the yardstick for the merits of any given movie is ridiculous.

Did YOU enjoy movies when you were two?

I took my 5 year old to see The Ant Bully, and his biggest complaint was the really good air-conditioning... other than that, he kinda liked it. I doubt he 'got' every scene, but who cares?

Next up for us? Les Enfants du Paradis.

I loved the movie, and it was great in 3D! DNA makes the best movies! Oh, and if it matters, I'm 15.

reply

sleazerama has a point. I doubt your child walked out on the movie because it was bad. He probably just didn't understand it. He's two for Pete's sake.

You see that yellow stuff? That's my awesomeness.

Now THAT'S funny!!! Thanks for putting things into perspective......(not that some will catch on)

i saw the film yesterday... well the movie wasn't all that bad...
i had a few laughs actually... the story may not be as good and compelling compared to that of pixars, but i guess it'll do, it's basically made for young viewers, so dont expect everyone to like it...

but what i really liked about the film was how the charcters looked liked... the 3d models were great! the background, color, texture and effects was awesome! i can only imagine how hard the crew must have worked just to make the ant bully characters come to life on the bigscreen... i admire those hardworking CGartists! lol :D

I am sorry, I know the post was made several months ago, but taking a two year old to the movies is a risk, either they like the atmosphere, or they dont. My niece was left home on movie outings because she hated the movies, other people, darkness, or she just would not sit still - Just like most of the 2 year olds in San Jose, Calif. Your 2 year old wanting out, could have been due to many other reasons. They can express themselves, sure, but to what level can they articulate their expressions? In other words, did you take the time to ask, Why were you bored..or what bored you - so that you don't make the same mistake 2 times. And the movie did not take place most of the time underground - that really makes me think that you did not see the movie - because during the day he was out learning to be an ant, at lunch time, they ate in doors, then they went back to the house, and slept out doors. I would say that more like 15-25 % of the movie was in doors, as opposed to outdoors.

Sorry if I sounded mean, I just know that the movie my niece was taken to, and that she wanted to leave because she was bored, she loved when we got it on video....because she was able to watch it in her surroundings.

Just My $0.02, Thanks any way,
-k

Well I took my 7 year old nephew and his friends to see it and they all were so quiet and really enjoyed it. there were quite a few teenagers who were snickering when Lucas was naked. My nephew asked what they were laughing at and asked me that it was bothering him cause he couldn't hear the movie. I told him to ignore them. I think the teens who snickered and commented about Lucas in his birthday suit should just grow up and let kids like my nephew enjoy the film. My nephew and his friends behaved better then them teens. After the movie my nephew and his friends wanted to see it again!!!

Well, I'm 17, I was in pain the whole movie, but that was just because I just got my wisdom teeth out :) I thought it was a decent animated movie. There were lots of little kids in there, they laughed at the weirdest parts, but that made it more entertaining.

I'd have to agree with most of the people commenting. If your kid can pull you out your seat, after you paid for him to go in the first place...

and I have a two year old and she couldn't take her eyes off the movie!!

reply

First of all, gasp, a 2 year old wanting out of a movie, who would think that an infant would ever get bored easily! I'm a teenager and I thought the film was pretty funny. So they cast big names stars, it doesn't mean anything and even though it wasn't the greatest written plotline, it had a great message and was in my opinion very creative, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

reply

yeah im 17 and i thought this movie was adorable, very cute and a good message...hell i even felt bad about flooding ant hills when i was a kid after this movie... i thought it was adorable,(i went to go see it soley for the reason that bruce campbell was in it) and i must admit im glad i picked this over miami vice, im definitely buying it when it comes out on DVD. you just cant let bad reviews go to your head.

HAHAHA movie_star_grl_805 and Digger 3000, you guys are awesome.
I'm 15, and I cracked up way too many times. I don't even remember if the kids laughed at all.

What were your favorite lines? I personally loved when one ant (I'm not sure of his name) said to Lucas, "So THAT'S why they call you Peanut! You've got a brain the size of a PEANUT!"

HAHAHAHAHA, funny stuff.

U-rated films are designed to be watched by children aged 4 and above in cinemas, which is a very good guideline to be aware of. I took two 7-year-olds and they loved it, as did I. My 3½-year-old would not have kept still for the duration, so I didn't take her. It is too much to expect of young children.

Although it is nice to take a trip to the cinema, my advice - buy the DVD when it comes out, (cheaper than 1 adult and 1 child tickets most of the time!) buy some popcorn or pick n mix from Woolworths and sit and watch in the comfort of your own home. If your kids hate it, you can recoup most of your money back by selling it on eBay!

Or RENT it.....
