[spoilers] So... what was the point of this film?

The angle (selling point) of this film was that it was based on the only documented case of a person being killed by a ghost. Considering the ghost ended up being Betsy just blocking out certain aspects of being incestuously raped by her father, and the killer was the guys wife, it's safe to say this was neither a ghost story, or a case of a ghost killing a person.

With the film completely backtracking on ghosts even existing, the scene at the beginning of the film (where the present day young girl sees a ghost) is also largely nullified. So now the whole "ghosts protecting young girls from abuse" plot line is now complete baloney.

So with that said, what actually was the point of the film? Am I being unkind in this post? Am I missing something in the film? Why in Gods name didn't they just dramatise the far more interesting Bell haunting as reported?

Hell, going out on a limb here, why not just tell the Bell's story as it was reported with zero rape embellishments for the under 15s to drool over? It wasn't needed.
