That line at the mental hospital didn't make much sense, these guys have known each other for 8 years, and she was Face's girlfriend from 3 years ago so she had to know if he did remember her from anywhere, it would be more than just before their mission to get the plates.

Yes, it does make sense. He's in a mental ward, and many mental patients have memory problems, and he's pretending to be just this side of catatonic. Witness Murdock's manipulation of Howard Little when the DVD arrives: Little says he doesn't know any Annabelle Smith, but Murdock tricks him into remembering a completely fictional person.
