Whats the Big Deal?

Ok..Ive seen the Oscars, enjoyed them and now laugh at what I'm reading here!Now i love movies as much as the next person(Ive seen all of the nominated films FYI) , but really what is it about the Academy Awards that makes people get so up and personal, over say, a different style of host or whether a song was sung in bad french?

Is it just me, or is the Oscars more about the actually performance or entertainment vaule of the ceremoney then the actuall rewarding of a good film that was done?
