Beyonce

Is it just me or was she too concerned about looking sexy while she was singing instead of actually feeling the song? And why in the world IS she singing 2 songs at the Oscars, anyway? Couldn't the woman who sang the Phantom song int he movie have sung it?? Don't get me wrong, I think she has an amazing voice, but it's just too choppy and her persona is too sexy for the Oscars.

I think it was 3 songs

I have to say that her French was really really bad. She sounded like she was singing an unknown language...

I know that it is asking a lot, and that they taught her the lyrics phonetically, but couldn't it sound just a little French?

"It sings?"

Totally agree. None of the songs she sang was good. You could actually see the composer (writer) of the song have to squeeze a smile when it finished. Her French was so bad, even the boys sang better.

The "Phantom of the opera" song was overdone. Her voice was just not elegant enough for the song. I heard the version by Minie Driver, it's way better. Go to Amazon and listen to a sample clip of the song.

There is no reason whatsoever why she got to sing a duo with Josh. I Believe is a solo, her voice distroy the balance.

She always overdoes it when she sings live. Even when you see her with Destiny's Child. They should have called it Beyonce and back up singers.

I thought she was lovley. I didn't hear the french one, but the phantom of the opera one sent shivers down my spine, and i was singing it at school all day the next day, and the polar express one was just really lovley. She was very brave to do 3 songs at something like the oscars, and she pulled it off completeley!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
I said she sucked!!!
I can't believed what I've done with one tiny post...
I say it again, so that everybody understands:
BEYONCE SUCKED BIG TIME !!!!(and a lot of air time too) Is it because she has a black voice? Ahhhh... I said the B word... Millions of appologies...I beg your mercy, please don't tell anyone I said that. I don't want people to think that I'm KKK or something.
No, it's because she sang 3 songs written for 3 voices completly different than hers and she skipped French classes in highschool and she has a big ass.
Why was she here then? ... How dare you ask that, you racist people. Why shouldn't she be there? Because she's African-American? Ha? You nazis!!! After millions and trillions of years of opression you still dare to comment. You should hang, you... you... white people.

i'm sorry but i guess i'm the only beyonce fan. i was very impressed with her performance. i like that she was able to step out of her boundaries and explore different genres. i've been reading the message board and i'm just gonna let the "black voice" comment go because it upsets me. beyonce is an excellant performer and singer. i'm sorry that a 'white voice' wasn't there to fill in for some of you. i would love to have the performances on tape. if someone knows where i can find them online, please let me know.

I know nothing about french, and I still know it was horrible. The bad thing is, she has strong Creole roots (mother's side). She is supposedly classically trained, whatever that means these days.

I totally understand the problems you all have with the French song, but she STILL sang it amazingly! (Her French WAS terrible, though).

The "Believe" song was okay...but actually, I thought Beyonce looked more comfortable on stage than Josh did. He looked like the typical deer-in-headlights. But he did sing good, and she did too. I just think the song was better in the movie, I guess.

Now I don't understand what you all say about Learn To Be Lonely. She was WONDERFUL!!! She sang it with passion...! She did it perfectly--she didn't over-do it and didn't try to sing like Driver (who, I think, is TERRIBLE. Driver didn't sing that song very well, not at ALL). Beyonce gave me chills with Learn To Be Lonely. I watch the show from time to time, and every time I watch her sing that song, I just get so transfixed.... She was amazing!

And Learn To Be Lonely should have won, hands down, for Best Original Song. The song that won was AWFUL. And Banderas can't sing to save his life...!

reply

Well, I actually loved her. She looked amazing, and I lover her voice. It sounded wonderful. I love her, and i really think that she made Oscar awards brighter.

reply

¬.¬ No way. Okay, I liked the song, but she was horrible. I'm a BN fan and her songs go with her voice. But those songs weren't meant for her. "/

Really, what on earth did the Academy have against having the original singers perform? They have every other year!
I just don't get any aspect of the whole Beyonce thing, she did terribly, and I can't see why they had to make Believe a duet just for her.
What is really sad it that before the Oscars Minnie Driver was talking about how excited she was to sing at the Oscars, and then she didn't get to.

True true true...

Come to think of it, why did they let Beyonce sing 3 of the 5 songs? It does seem rather odd now that I'm thinking about it...

I don't see that as being racist...

i like how every single thread on imdb seems to turn into some kind of race-based argument. it's fun for all the (blonde haired blue eyed) family.

I completely disagree. I think Beyoncé looked GORGEOUS (although I think her look for "Believe" could have been better) and wasn't trying to be "sexy." I don't know French, but I thought that "Vois Sur Ton Chemin" sounded BEAUTIFUL either way. I actually love listening to it to this day. I'm sure she didn't learn the song by herself, so if you want to blame anyone about the bad French, blame the people who taught it to her. I also don't get how anyone could question the passion in her voice for "Learn to Be Lonely." I'm a big Beyoncé fan, and I don't think I've seen one performance in which she DIDN'T have passion in her voice.

With that, I don't really understand why the Academy had her sing the three songs either. I would have preferred the original singers myself, as well. But again, I didn't think her performances were bad at all.
