Keaton's Secret

Just wondering if anyone had any theories on what it was that Speaker Templeton actually had on Vice President Keaton. I know it had something to do with his daughter and their grandaughter that they were raising but they never went into it. Any ideas?

reply

I think His daughter was raped or something and after that she just lost it mentally,

reply

What I thought at first was that Keaton's daughter got pregnant from that guy that told Templeton but I dont thin that is right.

I also thought maybe that his daughter was a drug addicted or somthing like that.

reply

Well the thing that confused me was the fact that the Senator that told Templeton said he knew Keeaton's secret. To me that indicated that it was something that brought shame on Keaton himself. If anything happened to his daughter (which they were very careful not to go into details about) that wouldn't necessarily be damaging to him personally or profesionally.

Keaton did strike me as the type that considered his family off limits, but still, that senator's attitude when he was telling Keaton to me indicated that it was something directly tied to Keaton but by way of his daughter and involving the child. Logically, the first thing that comes to mind is incest but I just can't see that from Keaton or if that was the case, for him to confess that to someone else. Drug addiction or rape, are other posibilities, but again, it's not something the general public would look at and shun. Those type of tragedies in his family might actually gain him sympathy from the public.

The other puzzling thing is the fact that Templeton himself thought it was a juicy enough secret to be able to blackmail Keaton with and if it was just something that amounted to his daughter being raped or drug addicted, I don't think Templeton would have necessarily wasted his time. I really liked Commander in Chief, I just wish I could ask the writers what Keaton's secret actually was. If any of you have any alternate theories, please feel free to share them.

Wanted to revisit this and see if any of you hand any opinions or theories.

reply

Guys, I know a lot of us on this board discuss the cancellation of the show and if it'll ever be brought back, but let's change the pace and discuss the show itself. This is one of the things that for me was left unsolved and I wanted to see if any of you possibly picked up on something I didn't on the show as far as subtle dialogue that would hint to what Keaton's Secret actually was. We started to discuss this before, but none of the theories any of us came up with actually seemed plauseable. Any opinions or theories?

reply

Did is a questions which I been dying to know for so long but nobody really knows. I feel like mybe she could have been a drug addict or something. I also posted somthing before about her getting pregnant.

I am sorry I cant really come up with a real theory.

reply

Drug addiction for his daughter isn't out of the question, neither is pregnancy but that is still not enough to bring shame on Keaton himself. Politically, all it would say to me is that he's had direct experience with the problem and can use it to either gain sympathy or help himself politically. To me, it just wouldn't be damaging enough to blackmail him with. Does Rod Lurie read this site? Because it seems that if anyone is going to answer that question, it's him.

reply

lol... you are right the only person who could answer this is Rod Lurie, I wish he would because I have been dying to know.

reply

I will give him credit though, the clues he gave us were very open-ended and nebulous. Good writing on his part.

reply

yea I have to agree!

reply

We might have seen a resolution to this point in the actual season finale and not the last episode.

reply

Maybe he secretly/illegally euthanized his daughter even though nobody in the family - the daughter included - wanted her to be euthanized. And now he's desperate to keep it hush-hush. Who knows?

wow that interesting, that never even enter my mind. Good theory.

reply

Actually, doctor assisted suicide makes sense and is a plausable theory. Good job.

reply

Just noticed this. Something cryptic Congressman Ferrer said to Keaton during his confirmation hearings about Keaton's daughter:

"Tragic. A doctor who herself became a patient."

I've been trying to make heads or tails of that comment and really to me it just comes back to 77517's theory of doctor assisted suicide that was covered up. Any theories on that statement that the congressman made?

reply

It was Keaton's military record.

reply

Well, I'd say I have to disagree with that because whatever it was had to be specifically tied into his daughter and his military record would in no way be tied to her. Not at least in any concieveable fashion I could think of. 77517's theory is still the best one that fits all the facts.

reply

Maybe he used his position to aid his daughter and it was a matter of record.

Don't you think it would have been more credible, and better for CIC if he had told Mac what Nathan was doing, even if he still chose to resign.

Also, how the hell didin't he think he would get found out?

In fact a better storyline would have been if Mac had kept that video of Nathan, Nathan tries to blackmail Keaton and then Mac gets her VP by using the video against Nathan.

reply

All we really know is it had to do with his daughter dying and that he confessed it to the Congressmen that told Templeton. I really wish that Mac would have kept the tape she was definately foolish for not doing so but for the single exception of not having Keaton's secret revealed, I did like the way the story played out.

I would just like to see who the unnamed democrat was.

reply

I just watched the episode where Templeton blackmails Keaton. Here's my theory now: Keaton said he wanted to or had his grandson's father possibly a rapist killed or threatened the guy from coming into the kid's life. Like others have said, it had or has to be something that wouldn't get him confirmed. I too wish they didn't cancel this show. ABC was stupid for not airing the remaining episodes and even more for choosing not to bring the series back.
