I wish more people could see this film

I am so lucky to part of a local film center here in Westchester County N.Y. - the Jacob Burns Film center - where quality films are screened and stand a "good" chance of never being released to a broader audience because they can't get a distributor. This will be a crime in this case. I loved this poignant, hearwarming roadtrip of a movie - trip taken by 40ish man with a wife and kids, who ends up traveling with his dad in his 80's. The sudden disappearance of the dad's wife leads to this bonding time filled with great laughs and just as many tears. It's a story told with so much sensitivity with obvious appeal to those of us probably in our thirties and forties who scrutinize our parents' relationship, wanting to get it right in our relationships and of course getting mad at Mom and/or Dad for not being perfect for each other or imperfect role models. Peter Falk is a natural to play Paul's Dad - and watching Paul is just a little sad because you wish you could see him every week again on t.v.

I saw this movie and Paul Reiser at the SIFF. Unfortunately, I could not like this movie, which I found to be cliched, slow-moving, irksome to sit through, and not particularly original, believable, or interesting.

I just saw this move at the Atlanta Film Fesitval. I was very moved by it since my own father just died a little over a year ago. Fortunately, according to Mr. Reisser (who was there), a distributor has signed on and it will be released in September. I hope it is a big success because it's the first move I've enjoyed in quite a while.
