This film is fantastic!

I remember catching it a while ago, but not all of it, and tonight I just happen to catch it on HBO, and I was just, well, very very pleased. It reminded me of my family soooo much, and how just a few years ago my father and I took a cross country trip, and it was funny and awkward all in the same.

I am not sure I would call the film fantastic, but I would deffinantly call Peter Falk's performance fantastic. I didn't see that performance coming and I was deeply moved by it. Specifically the scene after Ben crashes the car into the tree the dialougue between Falk and Reiser was exellent. I enjoyed this film much more than I thought I would.

About 2 months ago it was on HBO and I watched 15 minutes and ruled it out as crap. I happened to actually watch it today and must say I was wrong. Much better than I thought it would be. Its right in place with its 6.5 rating.

From what I saw...I must agree. I'm now wanting to see the film in its entirety. I'd dozed off watching another movie, this came on, I started watching this and found it sweet & charming, and then my partner starts in with the "Oh my God! It 4 am and the TV's still on and I have to work tomorrow..." (True enough...at 5 pm he did have to head out) but anyway, I'm planning to watch it next time I find it. At the start, I thought, "Peter Falk...Paul Reiser...and female relatives in split-screen shots calling in on the phone...this is going to suck..." and was pleassantly, pleasantly surprised.
