Peter Falk = Overdue Recognition!
Peter Falk was twice nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar: for 1960's "Murder, Inc." and for 1961's "Pocketful of Miracles". Ever since then, he's been in many comedies and consistently delightful--But naturally, he's best known to fans for his work in the long-running TV series Columbo, playing that infamous bumbling detective. He's a great actor and always an engaging presence on the screen--and that's why I'm so excited to see "The Thing About My Folks", because I think it may provide him with his best role in -years-....Through his maturing in his acting, this role of a crotchety old mizer of a father might be both hilarious and touching at times, but should always be arresting to the viewer. And I think if Peter Falk amazes like I expect he will, then he'll be in high consideration for Oscar nominations. It's too soon to tell who will win or not, but I sense that it's quite possible for him to be well thought of come Awards time. Let's hope he gets some of the recognition that he's been overdue for in movies for quite a while now....I sure hope he gets the recognition he deserves! Does anyone else think he'll be a contender by that time? I think this film will need strong buzz to stick around in Academy voters' minds until December, but I think it can be done--especially if the HFPA would be kind enough to give Peter a Golden Globe nod. Well....let's hope for the best =).
