MOS DEF should have taken Snoops role
Would have made the film much better! Mos Def is a great actor!

shareThank you for saying this. I was trying to come up with a title for a thread and saw yours. Mos Def would have brought a nuance to the character that was sorely needed. Snoop can't act and played Willie as a one-dimensional thug/gangsta, hip-hop style.
As someone who was there during the time period, the persona that you see of blacks was WAY different. Trust me, Willie Spearment was a much fuller character than what Snoop played. Back then, a black man trying to write, working at a typewriter each day was someone who was enlightened on many levels, not just street. Snoop was one-dimensional and he certainly didn't come off like a Brooklynite. He was awful.
THANK you! I couldn't agree more.
Mos Def indeed. He totally owned the role in Something The Lord Made. TOTALLY. I get choked up merely thinking about it.
Snoop should stick with the likes of Soul Plane. I really tried, but I just couldn't buy what he was attempting to sell.
I did find issue with the possibility of TWO serious writers clankin' away in the same tenement on the same floor. Puhleeze. But then again, Mos Def could've made me believe.
I had to fast forward a number of times.
Thanks again for your postings.
P.S. Dylan doing push ups in his undies definitely helped. HEE!
