Can U relate??!!??

I am responding to one message posters comment that he could not identify with the characters and thus did not like the film. Well, I can relate (as I consider myself to be an African-American writer who has lived some of life and is now ready to put some of my experiences to the page) and it bothers me when I see, what is most likely, someone not of color berating a performance of some depth by an African American whom you would obviously rather see in something more cliche and digestable. What is so funny is that that was the argument of Snoop's character throughout the film and the film was set in the early 70's. My how little things change. Would Soulplane 2 work for you?

Snoop is obviously very talented and I might add perfect for this role. Being a 90's rapper (before it went commercial and allowed you to comment on it in the first place) those rappers were essentially writers and part of a movement. This was also an artistic film which is needed in the African American community and is best served by talent from that genre when you least expect it. Although Willie Spearmint is not as good as Tupac's Spoon it is basically the same idea. Both The Tenants and Gridlockd are good films about artist that should appeal to artist particularly of color who want to broaden the horizon, scope and dialogue for that community. I hope they make more of these types of films!!!

I can relate, yes. But I did find Snoop Dog a little lightweight occasionally, but I wasn't sure whether this was deliberate or not. He's not likeable, and he's racist, but historically there were a lot of 'angry young (black) men' in the US at that time, so he was maybe more accurate than I realise, not being American. But I had no problem relating to the characters - even although they were both dislikable and annoying!

Author of The DANNY Quadrilogy, and all-around genius.
