Snoop Dogg in a serious role?

I heard Snoop talking about this movie when he was on Jay Leno, saying that this is a different, more serious role for him. I, personally, have no faith in him as an actor. He talks in an incedibly low voice, his face never changes expression and he constantly looks high (and probably is most of the time). I definitely think Snoop should stick with his day job and stay out of the film business. He hasn't yet proven that he has ANY talent.

You may be surprised this time. I worked on this movie. Snoop did a great job. I look forward to seeing it finished. We'll see!

When is the movie going to be released?

Anybody know when this movie will be released?

I think it will be... interesting... to see how snoop manages to pull this off. And I think it will be especially interesting to see how Rose Byrne manages to act as his girlfriend. She is a wonderful actor... I just hope this movie doesnt end up like everything else snoop has ever worked on: self promoting, sexist and unwatch/lisenable...
anyone know when this movie is coming out in Australia?

Anybody got any indication when this might be released??

I just got out of a screening of this film at the Asheville Film Festival. I didn't think that Snoop did a remarkable job at all, but I guess in the same token he didn't necessarily ruin the film for me. I wasn't familiar with the source material before, but I thought it was pretty cool film. I guess if you expect to see Snoop acting as Snoop then you probably will. If you're expecting Snoop to transform into Don Cheadle then don't waste your time. It's hard to necessarily pull yourself away from the fact that your watching Snoop Dogg instead of the character, but I definitely don't think it ruins the movie; you just have to know that going in. But overall I really enjoyed it and I hope it gets picked up because it's a pretty cool story.

I agree.
I saw this today and Snoop is good, but his dialog is a bit unbelievable at times.
Dylan McDermott is quite good and convincing in his role.

Overall, it's a good film, but there were many times where out of sync foley or crappy production audio took me out of the film. And Dylan McDermott's complete inability to actually type made scenes where this supposed (once)great and published writer who has done nothing for years but sit in front of his typewriter absolutely laughable - you can see him actually punching the same keys over and over again. And if you can't actually see his fingers, the pure repetition of the sound of the typewriter gives him away.

See it if you really like Dylan and/or Snoop, but otherwise, move on.

Agreed. Plus, I thought the 'action' ending was corny. But the performances were decent. Worth a rental if you're a fan of Snoop's.

unwatchable at best.

There was no sign that this movie could hit the bar of 2 for me because of the lack of serious acting, and storyline. Its best described in one word: DULL!
The ending of the movie really wraps it all up, but see that for yourself...

Snoop, and the other lead actor were great in their roles. The film itself was very good. It was frustrating to watch, making my fiancee and I both cringe at moments (in a "we're so drawn into the scene" way rather than a "God, this film is so sh*tty" type of way).

The non-believers need to wake up. Snoop CAN act, and while I do think he should expand a bit more in his acting spectrum, he continually does great in the range he has worked with thus far (particularly in Baby Boy, Bossn'Up, and this film).

It shouldve been much better, but it is a welcome departure from comedy and action genres. Hopefully, Michael Gondry or Spike Jonze could approach Blackalicious or Common and blend this kind of genre again...

But these so called critics can make their own album, sell it, then star in their own movie.

i just saw the trailer and it blew me away. i mean, snoop dogg. seriously. just, wow. this movie might give him the cred the soul plane took away.

I just watched this film and it was serious. The acting and story was great. It had me going and thinking, what is up with the DOGG. First he's cool then he's a mad dog out for blood. The movie is worth watching. Indie films always push the limits which is why I love indie films. This is a film! Great directions..

Just saw this. Snoop is good. I couldn't believe he would commit himself to such a serious film. The script is what killed this. And it was based on a Bernard Malamud novel. Adapted poorly. Snoop should try it again with a good script. Mos Def did it with 15 Blocks.
