Why is every film I want not available on DVD

Any film buffs out there who clearly understand why any films that go to the arty cinema's (not mainstream block busters) never make it to DVD? I've only just joined IMDB and so far have had a 2 out of 2 miss rate for trying to but films from their Amazon link. It's driving me crazy. I wanted Tara Road for a present for a friend on the other side of the world (I know it's a chick flick that wont win pretentious awards but hey, sometimes mindless "feel good" movies are just what the (female obviously) doctor ordered!)

Thank you for the link. I just ordered mine. I live in the US and the All-Region/ any format (PAL or HTMC) DVD player is the only way to enjoy European art-house films. They are not that expensive or hard to find. I highly suggest anyone who hates missing these worthwhile films, purchase one.
