Maeve Bincheys friend Rosemary

I firmly believe that Maeve Binchey has a friend called Rosemary. Or maybe a "frenemie" (did I spell that right?) There's a blonde, attractive friend called Rosemary in Tara Road and there is another blonde, attractive Rosemary in Circle of Friends. Maybe I'm reading too much into it as it is a name used only twice but Maeve doesn't have many repetitions. It's not exactly as though Circle of Friends Rosemary could be Tara Road Rosemary when she was younger but if it was revealed to be true I wouldn't be too surprised. Other than the obvious timeframe difference. Maybe something happened to Circle of Friends Rosemary just after coleege and she had some sense shaken into her.

Theyre both called Rosemary Ryan.

I read Circle of Friends and then Tara Road....I firmly believe that it's the same Rosemary in each of the books.... Both play the part of friend, only to steal away the "good looking" man of her "plain" best friend. I wonder if Maeve had a bad run in with a "Rosemary" in her younger days?

You mentioned that she doesn't have many repetitions. I have been amused to notice that at least once in every book she uses the word "eegit." Meaning idiot. I am reading the 10th book of hers, and have 4 more on the way from Amazon. I just started reading her books a few months ago. I always thought she was a romance novelist till a friend recommended Tara Road.

She does have some repetitions, at least in secondary characters names. There are several people with the last name of Ryan. Circle of Friends has two unrelated Walshes, and two men named Sean. Many of her books have a Bernadette in there, good or bad. Other names she used at least twice are Brian, Deirdre, Carmel, Kate, Sheila, Helen, Anna, Simon, Nessa, and Desmond. There's are a Leo (short for Leonora)in Copper Beech (I think) and a Clio (short for Cliona) in Glass Lake who seem to be similar people.

Rosemary in Tara Road actually seems more like Nan Mahon in Circle of Friends than Rosemary. I could imagine Nan being a good businesswoman when she got out of college. She was amazingly good with people and with knowing the best thing to do in any sticky situation, as was the Tara Road Rosemary. Both used people without being suspected--people though they were wonderful people until they got hurt by them. And both slept with their best friend's boyfriend or husband.
