Understanding Ed the shopkeeper

Ed is a complex character that needs much investigation. His facade as a good guy at a small town is all well and good but is there a double edged sword? Is this merely a portrait that we are meant to look at and awe in wonderment - or do we look beyond the picnic on the grass on that beautiful summer evening?

Ed's finale establishes him as the true hero of the story. He rescues Diana from being stranded and from the clutches of mastermind Curt Seavers - who is probably back on the mend after that little fall.

Ultimatly, Ed is the main piece of a constantly morphing jigsaw and confusing yet powerful story.

Just saw this on cable here in Scotland, I definitely got the feeling there was more to Ed than what we saw. I think he might've been ex-Special Forces, with espionage training, from how quickly he was able to read that Curt was lying. He effortlessly outsmarted him as well, which can't be easy.

It could be like you say though, and Ed the grocey store owner/operator is actually a metaphor for nature, for the Earth itself which sustains us all with it's bounty, and ultimately for the universe. I got the feeling that he knew there was something wrong up at the Snowman's Pass weather station even before he called Diana's phone.
