Plot question

Just watched the movie, and I think I got most of it. One scene was kind of confusing though. When the villain is camped out by the villagers waiting to attack, he suddenly says that some music sounds like a nursery rhyme and asks his aide to sing it for him. While he is singing it, the children of the village act like they are being drawn to something (the music?). Is this another example of the editing of the movie confusing the plot, or did I miss something here?

...i think it was more of the editing. as the aide was singing, a chorus is then added into the soundtrack, but it is not related to the plot.

although, there is some wuxia in this film, in which the swords sometimes "sing" during combat.
