The Violin Music...

..played at the end: Can anybody tell me what it was, please? It's as if I just heard it in another movie too, but I can't place it! It's a nice theme, and I'd like to buy it. Who actually performs it here isn't that important, but the name of the composer and the title on it or opus number would be wonderful. Thanks

Rather enjoyable tv-film, by the way. Everett was a good Holmes. And Hart was good to!

reply

I guess you saw it on the Norwegian TV channel NRK1 a week ago, like me?

Yes, I got the same feeling from the music. Guess it is has been used in a Norwegian TV Commercial, but I am not sure. Or maybe a TV show or something recently run on some Norwegian TV channel?

But that still leaves the main question: Where is the music originally from?

reply

The composer is Luigi Boccherini
The piece is La Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid, No. 6, Opus 30
It was also used in Master and Commander - Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany strum it as the ship sails off into the distance at the end of the film.

Thank you!

Remind me to by you a beer if we ever should happen to meet somewhere!

not sure if anyone can help me cause i'm after a cello piece off this movie, i didnt actually watch it i just caught the last part and i think the third last piece is the one i'm after. can anyone help me by chance

reply

Can anyone nail the piece Holmes played on his violin? It sounded like a cello piece transposed to the violin. It was identified as Bach in the film, but which piece?

Thanks

reply

That would be Violin Concerto In A Minor, BWV 1041: II: Andante, according to a quick entry in google. I have a recording but it's only identified with the number and searching just that got me that. Hope it helps!

Thanks a million!

this same question has been driving me crazy, I actually sent this question in to the PBS site to see if they knew

so does anybody know the answer?

not even a generic reply

somebody try the Beeb?

reply

I checked the BBC website and specifically looked up Silk Stockings; the end credit music is Boccherini's la Musica Notturna delle Strada di Madrid No. 6, Op. 30. Here's the link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/sherlockholmes.shtml

Hope this helps.

That reminded me of Philip Glass, whose music I dislike so intensely that I almost stopped watching. No, if it had kept up I would have turned off the sound and used subtitles. But then I'd have missed Rupert's voice.

reply

You don't think it's by the composer listed for the original music for the show: Adrian Johnston. He apparently has The House of Mirth with Gillian Anderson to his credit, which also had memorable music. I agree it sounded very much like Philip Glass, but I don't think it was, just derivative of that kind of sound.

reply

Seeing as it's a more a theme than the classical pieces that appear for a little in the end and beginning, it's probably an original composed by that Adrian Johnston bloke. Wish they'd make a soundtrack of it...

reply

anyone know the name of the piece that is placed when sherlock dons his hat, grabs his umbrella, and walks outside into the fog? it's a very passionate and dramatic violin piece.

reply

Do you mean Violin Concerto in A minor, BMV 1041 - II Adante...?

reply

....talking of Adrian Johnston he also composed the wondrous music for the BBC's 'Byron'....this man at least deserves a CD compilation!!
