BRAVO RUPERT

To those who even thought for a second Rupert Everett was not, in any way, a good Sherlock Holmes:

I totally disagree. Rupert Everett portrayed an excellent Holmes at a time in Holmes' life where he was considering retirement (he was reading a book on bees in the cafe) and not at all happy with Watson who was getting married yet a second time. Just because Holmes didn't take opium on regular basis does mean he didn't partake. Holmes had no problem with drugs when his mind "rebelled at stagnation". A scene with Holmes doing opium, especially in that era,was not out of sorts OR character. Thank heavens we had no deerstalker. Anyone who calls for Holmes to wear one, especially in the city, is no true Sherlockian. That was strictly country garb. As to the story itself, it was an excellent pastiche with a good solid and, thankfully, more adult oriented theme spearheaded by a truly evil criminal mind. I was also glad to see no pipes and the Master Jeremy Brett did bring a lot of cigarettes so Everett followed suit and presented us,along with great physical appearance,an outstanding and thoughtful Holmes at a crossroads of his career. Watch it again. And they should make more which would compliment the current SHERLOCK series.

I think Rupert did a wonderful protrayal of Sherlock Holmes. You can see the sorrow in his eyes. So unforgettable.
