No. Sex does not equate to love. Love exists without sex and sex exists without love. The movie is perfect just the way it is. Actually, I think it's much better without a bunch of sex mucking it up.

Their love was expressed enough that sex scenes wouldn't have added anything more to the film. If anything it might've taken away from it. It was about love and care for the soul. Not saying sex scenes ruin that, but why bother if it's not necessary? The story was executed perfectly the way it was told.
