What the hell!!!??

This is the last so-called psychological thriller w/ French subtitiles for me. Hell, Cache was bad enuff(sic).

'Scuse me but did I miss som'n between him going out and coming back into the room and then his wife was there? If the point was to twist my mind into a knot then they got me.

It actually fell apart for me early on when I say why does he not show his wife one of the several pix he has w/ the mustache. Then the ending. What is this world was that all about?

Can someone explain to me wha' the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THat's it, no more , to think I actually sat up and watched this waiting for some kind of payoff.

It may be about all that stuff you say ... but this is a movie to remove
all your illusions and leave you with nothing but the desire to end it all.
Ugh ... it was awful. Only a masochist and a nihlist would find this movie
unsatisfyingly satisfying.

I have nothing to say, I just thought this was a terrifically funny and entirely silly quote.

(As he puts in the movie he takes whip off wall and starts hitting self repeatedly while laughing at the futility of existence.)

"Or perhaps it's not overrated"

reply

I think that nihilism is vastly underrated.

F---- metaphors. i'd rather have a movie.

besides, it can be well communicated to teh viewer and still have metaphors.

ie the desries dexter. never leaves the viewer in the dark

Obviously you didn't sit up and wait for payoff. You fell alseep, during the interesting portion. Get over it.

It might help to know that Emmanuel Carrere is a fan of the science fiction author, Philip K. Dick. In fact Carrere is co-author of a book about Dick called,
I AM ALIVE AND YOU ARE DEAD; A JOURNEY INTO THE MIND OF PHILIP K. DICK. Most of Dick's work concerns the loss of identity and the examination of Reality. And, without a doubt, this is a central focus in La Moustache.

Excuse My Dust...

For me the film was simply too obtuse, too self-consciously trying to be about identity. The cheat was that he never sat down and said to his wife, look, here I have a moustache and here I don't. Even the lady in the photo booth could see that he had had a moustache at an earlier time. That kind of a cheat is infuriating because it fails the audience at a crucial juncture. That is why I call it a cheat. A better film, in my opinion, is Reconstruction by Christoffer Boe starring the gloriously hot Maria Bonnevie. If you want to explore the nature of reality and hallucination or "unreality", try this one. Might take a couple of viewings.

I watched it again with my movie gal pal who is more knowing about these "identity" films than I, and the only conclusion we could arrive at about the ending was the director wanted a free vacation included in shooting the movie, hence the final foreign location.

I though this movie had potential at the beginning but it lost me after a while. Didn't like it, didn't really understand it either.
