my friend in orlando stumbled upon the original but I have never seen it anywhere else on the net any suggesstions

The original Born to Fight and the 2004 version are completely different movies, both in plot and in just about everything. If you like this one, you will probably only be mildly amused by the original. They only share the same title, director, and similar stunts (in small places), nothing else. It's easily available on Netflix, and you can buy it from Amazon pretty cheap.

Here's the amazon link. Don't pay any attention to the cover art though, Tony Jaa only has a minor stunt role in the second and third one. This does include plenty of other Tony Jaa and general stuntman material though :-)
