dissapointed...



i was just wondering why the director decided to skip the part when fariba is confessing her real identity to Anne?
i mean, the exact moment when she tells her. i thought the whole movie depended on that moment and Anne's reaction, i was just mildly dissapointed by that.

and another thing, i know this sounds corny but to me the story is a bit incomplete. i mean fariba adopts a man's identity again in nowhere but TAHRAN. thats like a death wish. and i thought Siamik had his own trouble in Tahran, going in there with his identity was just gonna worsen her punishment if she was ever exposed. i feel like there has to be a second part to discuss all this, the story was definetly cut in its prime.

Anne already knew that Siamik was Fabrina by the time Fabrina decided to tell her. Anne probably knew long before she fully realised it. When she was holding and caressing Fabrina's hand in the car she could tell that she was not holding a man's hand, and when Fabrina kissed her for the first time before she went off on her scooter, Anne would definately have realised in her subconscience that she was not kissing a man. You could tell by her reaction. I can't remember Anne's exact words but at some point she says something along the lines of "I'm confused about us, I'm confused about you." ie. I know you're not really a man and I still haven't quite figured out how to deal with that, but I love you.
Even if the director did show us the exact moment Fabrina told her, it would not show a reaction of surprise from Anne that you seem to want, because Anne knew in her heart before her mind put the pieces together. This is why I don't think the director showed that moment, it would be like stating the frikkin glaring obvious. This movie doesn't have to rely on some climatic moment. It's a layering of emotions and nuances and unspoken confessions.

I don't think the movie needs a second part because Fabrina would only have to rely on Siamik's identity a short time before returning to Germany as the female identity in the passport she managed to get with the money from stealing the car. And those looking for Siamik would not know that he'd returned, in fact she wouldn't have to pretend she's Siamik, she would be able to survive under the cover of just being a man. Yes getting caught would be risky but she has much more freedom as a man and the risk would be greater going back as a woman because if she was recognised as the gay woman they know her to be then she'd be killed.

This movie was not cut in it's prime. Maybe you just prefer obvious and overcooked movies, instead of the more thought provoking medium rare variety.

I agree. Anne touching and examining Fabrin/Siamak's hand was significant. I think that she initially knew after that.

It's interesting for me that you see it this way, because to me, I thought it was pretty ingenious for them not to show this moment, because later, when they were standing in that bedroom and she started undressing Fabrina, I thought there was a scary moment of: "Oh my god! She's going to find out now!" That's because I had no idea yet that she had actually told her the FULL story already. I assumed she just went with Siamik's story instead, as the chance of the girl being "weirded out" and going to tell on her was just too great. So it was more effectful - to me - that they decided to leave this out.

What *I* didn't like so much about this movie was that the boy called the police from his room and they get there 2 minutes later (unlikely) and then they just hold Fabrina and the girl never says, "No, wait, you've got the wrong person." Then again, maybe she was scared they would spill the beans and tell them about her "identity theft".

Otherwise I thought the movie was excellent!

I haven't seen this film in some time so excuse me if I'm missing the point or have this wrong, but the political party/organisation that Siamik was a member of was made legal just after/before he killed himself; making his death all the more tragic as he could have returned to Teheran.
If she had been able to return to Teheran as Siamik the issue would have been being caught as Fariba, not as Siamik, surely? And going back as Fariba she is likely to be arrested for her lesbian relationship...

And the final scene was Fariba returning on the plane...right? I liked how it was left ambiguous at the end. I need to see this film again.
