Video Game

If Valve was even remotely planning on making a Half-Life film adaptation of the game (which I hope they do, from the bottom of my heart), they should've locked up the title "Half-Life" as soon as they could. It's ridiculous that a movie titled "Half-Life" is being made when it has nothing to do with the game. Talk about dropping the ball. I predict that as much as 17% of all people who go to see this movie will be walking in blindly thinking they're going to see a movie based on the game. Poor souls.

On another note, who do you think should be cast as Gordon Freeman, should a film ever be made? I think Gary Oldman is the man for the job. You have to admit, with the glasses and the beard, he does bear a striking resemblance to every picture we've ever seen of Gordon Freeman.

I think it's ridicilous to think like that, like "The word Half-Life was invented by Valve when they invented the game, there is no other meaning for Half-Life except the game Half-Life".

I find it's ridicilous that you whine about a movie titled Half-Life cause there is a game that might be turned in to a movie. Which is highly unlikely.

The term Half-life was created along time ago... the most common use of the term is when talking about radioactive substances (and they've been around alot longer than the game which came out in 1998 whereas the term has been used since 1907). they could just as easliy make a film about chernobyl and call it half-life..

here go read up on abit of science, you might learn something http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-life .... now im not saying the game is bad ... i actually love the game... but dont think that valve invented a term thats older than computers....

They can't trademark a film title that comes from a generic term. "Half-life" was a standard scientific term long before it was a computer game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-life

Anyone that stupid deserves their disappointment. Perhaps we could offer them cyanide bills outside the doors.

Is there another way out of here, apart from the front door?
Yes, the back door.

Hugh Laurie (House)= perfect it for Gordon Freeman

reply

Nah... It'd be a lot better if they had unknown actors. The charm of the game was because the characters were believeable. If you had Hugh Laurie, you'd be thinking he was Dr.House...not Dr.Freeman.

ya on your *beep* period?

reply

Think that's bad? Try having to think of him as a very goofy character on a British Comedy called Black Adder every time you see him.

Or of one of Cruella de Vil's (101/102 Dalmations) henchmans...

And I'd also add Edward Norton... I'd think of Fight Club, but then again, that's not a bad thing no matter how I look at it... for me. But yeah, Freeman's role should be something (actor) fresh... a one-movie actor, that'd fit it well...

"RIP Futurama"... LOL

reply

When I think of Edward Norton I think of a weak man-boy in his underpants. LIke in the end of Fight Club, all his characters are weak and annoying, except the one in American History X. And that's just my opinion so let it go.

reply

Maybe if it was back in his Jeeves and Wooster days, but he is too old to play Gordo Freeman now...

reply

I'm pretty glad this movie is called Half-life. Maybe this will prevent Uwe Boll from ever making a movie based on the game.

reply

Oh dear, now that is a scary thought...

Kinda like how Star Trek called their movie Nemesis though Nemesis has nothing to do with Star Trek so Resident Evil couldn't call theirs Nemesis? Its ok though cause Star Trek sucks and so do the RE movies...

And I do have to agree that just cause a movies called Half-Life doesn't mean it has to have to do with the game. Like there's plenty of movies with the same name as a games (and I don't mean the ones that are actually made from movies)... its just one of those sad things that happens... sides if they do make a Half-Life game they'll still call it Half-Life... how many movies have the same title and aren't related as well?

reply

I'm not sure. but if Valve wants to make Half-life a movie, they still have the right to call it Half-life (regardless if another movie has the same name).

reply

Deady Cookie's right. Search up some random words on the imdb search thing and I'm sure you'll get 3-5 movies titled the same. This having the same name does nothing against Valve or whoever may decide to make a Half-Life movie.
